Rother Lapplz Tour 10 Vittjakk-Akkanalke About 6 km southwest of the city center, the Vittjakk-Akkanalke nature reserve is located around hills up to 700 m high and can be explored on hiking trails. The uniqueness of the reserve, which is also designated as a Natura 2000 site, arises from the ancient rocks that make up the undulating, hilly terrain. These rocks are significantly older than the surrounding areas, which are "only" 430 million years old. Between the hilltops, ancient forests, vast moors, and Lake Stenträsket have formed a diverse, highly pristine landscape. Access is via a gravel road that branches off about 2 km west of the main E45 highway and ends at the large parking lot near the Vittjäkkstuga (including the ski lift). For summer hikes, there are three circular trails available, traversing the landscape at 3, 5, and 15 km in length, and they are largely well-maintained. The trails run through dwarf shrub heaths and over forest ridges, crossing numerous moors and extensive swamps. Colored markers, wooden poles, and simple signposts indicate the direction, along with a few nature information panels. Despite the existing boardwalks, sturdy, preferably waterproof, footwear is required, as the terrain is constantly muddy and damp.
