A few days ago we hiked Passage West in Cork, so it only makes sense to hike Passage East on our last day before leaving. Two counties east (from my daughter's perspective) we're here in "Ireland's Ancient East," as the tourist office calls it. To be precise, it's the Hook Peninsula between the towns of Waterford and Wexford. I hadn't been there before, and I don't know anyone who has (which is saying something in Ireland). So today we're setting off by car to explore the narrow roads and small towns. This is Kennedy country, as the family of the former Irish president came from here, and the "Irish" (i.e., those who didn't emigrate) clan members still live here. They keep in touch, visit each other now and then, and the cousins-from-across-the-pond donate generously. So there's a lot of Kennedy memorabilia to see, and the arboretum would have been very appealing. Oh well, next time, because today we're staying somewhere else. Little Arthurstown is such a charming place by the sea, and the pub serves simple seafood all day long. There's also a short hiking trail high above the ocean. You reach it via a rather precarious scaffold (I've got it for you 📸), which thankfully holds up. Since the sun is shining so brightly today, the mud isn't a problem. It's perfect, we cheer and shout for joy, and then it's off to the pub.
