The trail to Mirror Lake in Yosemite Park, California. The path is not special but very rewarding. The lake itself was dry in September.

How long does it take to hike the Yosemite Village to Mirror Lake trail?

The hike from Yosemite Village to Mirror Lake typically takes about 1.5 hours to complete the 6 km (3.7 mile) round trip. This is an easy trail with minimal elevation gain.

Is the Mirror Lake trail suitable for beginners and families?

What is the best time of year to visit Mirror Lake?

For the most iconic 'mirror' reflections, the best time to visit is in spring and early summer. During this period, Tenaya Creek is fed by snowmelt, ensuring Mirror Lake is at its fullest. In late summer and fall, the lake can diminish significantly or even dry up, becoming 'Mirror Meadow'.

Do I need a permit or pay an entrance fee to hike this trail?

While no specific permit is required for the Mirror Lake trail itself, it is located within Yosemite National Park, which requires an entrance fee. You can find current fee information and any reservation requirements on the official nps.gov website.

What kind of terrain can I expect on the trail?

The trail begins with a flat, paved service road for the first mile, suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. After this, it transitions to a dirt path that loops around Mirror Lake and follows Tenaya Creek. While generally easy, some sections of the dirt path can be uneven. In winter, expect potential icy or snowy patches.

What scenic views and landmarks will I see along the way?

The primary highlight is the reflective surface of Mirror Lake, offering stunning views of Half Dome, North Dome, Mount Watkins, and Washington Column mirrored in its waters. You'll also pass through lush forests and alongside the tranquil Tenaya Creek, with exhibits providing ecological and cultural insights.

Does this trail connect with other hiking routes?

Yes, this route utilizes sections of several other trails. It follows parts of the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail and the Valley Loop Trail. You'll also find sections that align with the Bike Path.

Is it possible to continue hiking beyond Mirror Lake?

Absolutely. Many visitors choose to continue beyond Mirror Lake into Tenaya Canyon. This offers an opportunity to escape the crowds and enjoy more solitude and expanded views of the surrounding Yosemite wilderness.

October 18, 2023, Upper Mirror Lake – Beautiful Forest Walk loop from Yosemite Village

Trail to Mirror Lake, a bit by Komoot, a bit by ourselves, and of course following the path as laid out. Original trail can be found on Komoot. This year there was hardly any water in the lake. Mirror Lake is a seasonal lake but we were here in September 2018 and 2019 as well and at the time there was plenty of water in the lake. Lovely easy to hike mostly unpaved trail although there is a little bit of elevation on a more rocky underground which can be a bit challenging to find secure footing.
