Goodwill Bridge viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge spanning the Brisbane River between South Bank and Gardens Point. From the centre of the bridge, you get open views along the river toward the city skyline, with high-rise towers reflecting off the water below. The bridge sits slightly elevated above river level, giving you a clear view of boats passing beneath and the CBD rising beyond. It’s a popular crossing, so keep left and stay aware of cyclists as you pause to take in the view.

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens

Highlight • Natural

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens is a heritage riverside park established in 1855 at the edge of the CBD, known for its mature trees, ornamental plantings, and mangrove boardwalks. Meandering paths connect lawns, ponds, and historic features, creating a shaded, peaceful stretch along the Riverwalk loop. Its location by the river serves as an important floodplain, emphasising the city's historical ties to the Brisbane River.

Next to it is the Eagle Street Pier, the most famous pier in Brisbane. It is located right on the edge of the skyscrapers and is lined with delicious restaurants and hip bars. There is usually a lot going on here both at lunchtime and in the evening.
You can eat something, drink something and simply enjoy life in Brisbane with a great view of the Brisbane River and the illuminated Story Bridge. We really enjoyed being here because, despite all the people, it is still cozy and pretty cool at the same time.

Story Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The name "Story Bridge" initially sounds almost philosophical or poetic—as if the structure could tell stories. However, this is misleading. The bridge is simply named after John Douglas Story, a well-known and important civil servant in Brisbane.

Also beautiful: At night, the Story Bridge is illuminated in a multitude of vibrant, constantly changing colors.

Tip: If you like, you can also climb the bridge during the Story Bridge Climb. We did the two-hour tour ourselves and had goosebumps the entire time. The 360-degree view from 70 meters high of the skyline and the surrounding city is simply breathtaking!

Kangaroo Point Cliffs

Highlight • Gorge

A fantastic sight in Brisbane is definitely the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. Like the South Bank Parklands, the cliffs are located on the other side of the Brisbane River and were formerly an old quarry.

Now, a small park has been built at the top of the cliffs, offering fantastic views of the Brisbane skyline. The view from here of the river and the skyscrapers is phenomenal!

Note: You can easily walk along the river from the South Bank Parklands to the cliffs – a lovely walk that's well worth it!
