Today hike with the WWV Bad Marienberg 2 women and 6 men ☀️🥾🚶👍🙋🤗
Bitterly fitting, good company, absolutely fantastic circular hike, what more could you want?!
From the car park on the way to Grenzau Castle, the hike is leisurely uphill. I pass the castle, the path turns right and I soon reach the Kaiserstuhl under shady trees. From here it is a zigzag course down into the Brexbachtal. The stream awaits me below and on the left you can see an underpass for the railway. But my path branches off to the right and the romantic valley awaits me for a longer stretch. A section of the mindfulness path lies before me. It smells of flowering balsam, the stream flows quietly alongside. Dragonflies buzz around. Again and again I cross or go under the Brexbachtal railway. Small bridges lead over the Brexbach and you actually disappear into the valley on small paths. The climb to Teufelsberg is a bit more strenuous, but the view here is beautiful. The route continues to climb up to the town of Nauort and it remains shady. There are wonderful views from afar and the Eifel hills are clearly visible. After that, open nature with meadows and fields welcomes me. Asphalt, meadow and forest paths and an open landscape now alternate. Before Alsbach, I come across a bench and from here I can once again enjoy a beautiful view. Alsbach itself is only included in the margins. The last few kilometers go back into the beautiful Brexbach valley, the path always goes up and down to the old, historic Grenzau train station. The information board about the corpse path was interesting beforehand. Then it is not far to the starting point. I enjoy the beautiful town on the last few meters and am lucky enough to be able to visit the St. Peter and Paul chapel, as a caretaker was there. The cooling peace inside the chapel and the view of the furnishings delight me at the end. From May to October, the chapel is open on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Conclusion: A varied hike with different types of paths. Grenzau with its castle, the Kaiserstuhl with a great view, the beautiful Brexbachtal, the Teufelsberg with valley and distant views, nice little towns and more.....
Super nice tour, especially the long section in the Brexbachtal.
A wonderful, varied, well signposted route.
Today I headed back to the Brexbach Valley: https://www.westerwald.info/d/waeller-tour-brexbachschluchtweg-grenzau/ If I remember correctly, I did this tour once before in July 2023. The Brexbach Valley is definitely worth a visit. There are a few other hiking trails there that are also worth exploring. I last hiked the BREX tour in this area: https://www.rheinsteig.de/a-wanderweg-suedliches-brexbachtal-brex That was on November 29, 2024. It was a pretty foggy day, by the way. And as we all know, the sun is already quite low in the sky at the end of November. If you'd like to see the footage, I'll link the tour I did back then here: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/1970334413 About today's tour: With warmer temperatures, the Brexbach Valley is certainly bearable. I was glad I had brought enough water with me, as it was getting quite warm. Especially since this path eventually led me out of the valley and into open areas without much shade.
The Brexbach is an almost 22 km long tributary of the Saynbach in Rhineland-Palatinate. It flows through the idyllic district of Grenzau below the castle of the same name Hoehr-Grenzhausen. The area is also known for its centuries-old pottery tradition, hence the name Kannenbäckerland! So this is where the fantastic Wäller Tour begins, which leads for kilometers through the beautiful Brexbachtal and mostly runs parallel to the historic Brexbachtalbahn railway line. It starts at the chapel, which is slightly higher on the slope. From here, a small road leads up to the castle, which is privately owned and can therefore only be viewed from the outside. Behind it, it goes straight into the forest, following a narrow path to the "Kaiserstuhl", a rocky outcrop with a bench, on which you are literally enthroned with a great view over the Brexbachtal. Right next to it is a narrow, steep serpentine path down to the stream, which winds its way through the green valley in a nice shade. If you still want to make raspberry jam this year, you should get there right now, because the ripe little fruits are almost falling into your hands at the moment. Without a container in my luggage, I had to eat a good amount of raspberry before I could continue. 😁 Only my hiking destination got me away from there, because I still had a few kilometers ahead of me! 🤗 The path now leads constantly along the stream, wonderfully quiet and in almost meditative silence. I only meet a few hikers and mountain bikers, it is an absolute immersion in nature! Only after a considerable distance and near the old train station of Naurf does the path lead out of the valley uphill over the Teufelsberg to the village! At this altitude you can now enjoy far-reaching views as far as the Eifel! The path continues in the same way through meadows and fields to Alsbach and Kammerforst, where it soon dives back into the forest! Beautiful, narrow paths follow again until you eventually reach the old Grenzau train station. It is then not far to the destination of the tour in the town centre, which by the way is worth seeing in and of itself! Phew....the text has gotten really long! Was also totally enthusiastic about the tour... absolutely recommendable, I think! The first half in the Brexbachtal is the more attractive part for me.
