Möja is one of the most characterful islands of the Stockholm Archipelago, often described as its cultural heart. The trail crosses the island from north to south along its sheltered eastern side, linking the old fishing villages that still shape Möja’s identity today.
Beginning in Långvik, walk the trail in a clockwise direction, following SAT markings. The path leads through pine forests and meadows, passing small harbours such as Ramsmora and Löka, before reaching Berg, the island’s main settlement. Here you’ll find a grocery store, bakery, cafés, a tourist office, and even a summer dance pavilion by the water. It’s one of the best places on the whole trail to pause, resupply, and soak up local life. From Berg, the route continues to Hamn, where the remains of the old harbour echo with memories of fishing and seafaring. Finally, retrace your steps to Berg.
Möja feels atmospheric, with traditional wooden houses, small museums, and traces of fishing heritage sitting side by side. The paths are easy to follow, mostly along village roads and forest tracks, and ferries dock at all the settlements along the way.
Accommodation on Möja includes cabins, cottages, and a self-catering hostel that is open from April to December. Even so, accommodations can be fully booked during the high season. Wild camping is permitted for one or two nights, but please be respectful of locals and remember to leave no trace.
On Möja, five ferry quays access the trail. You can reach these from Sollenkroka (Värmdö) or from Stockholm City via Vaxholm. During the summer, you can also take the Nordsyd ferry line, which follows the SAT. The stages of Möja, Svartsö, Grinda, and Sandhamn are well connected, forming a natural cluster that can easily be linked together to create a fantastic week-long island-hopping adventure.
The Stockholm Archipelago Trail (SAT) is a waymarked hiking trail that connects over 20 islands, accessible by a public ferry network. You can choose to spend a day at a time on the trail, connect nearby islands in conveniently grouped sections, or hike the SAT as a thru-hike for the full experience.
