Dill Valley Between Dillenburg and Sechshelden

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A beautiful bike path on the dill, either a little trip to the dill or just like me the daily way to work.

Dill Valley Cycle Path: Herborn to Sinn

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A well-maintained cycle path runs alongside the railway. Halfway along, you can see one of the power plants along the Rehbach stream.

Dill River in Ehringshausen

Highlight • River

The Dillradweg crosses the Dill at this point. In most places, the cycle path in the villages runs partly on the public road network. Fortunately, this section is very short in Ehringshausen.

Trail Reviews

Karl-Heinz K.
August 10, 2024, Fahrradtour 10.08.2024 (63 Km.) von Dillenburg nach Wetzlar.

Our plan was to take the train from Wetzlar to Dillbrecht and from there take the Dill cycle path via Dillenburg, Herborn, Ehringshausen and Aßlar back to Wetzlar station. Unfortunately we hadn't counted on the Hessian State Railway. At the station in Gießen we received the usual announcement: .. train service cancelled .... ! Luckily there was still a connection to Dillenburg, our new starting point. From there the route goes through several towns with heavy car traffic. There are only a few sections where you can really say that cycling is fun. Most of the time there are open areas with little shade and constant car traffic. Of course there are people who like routes like this, but we are not one of them. The signposts are fine. But sometimes they were clear - ambiguous. Here a good gut feeling for the direction of travel was sometimes an advantage.

Went on a lovely May Day tour today 🚵🏻‍♂️☀️🚵🏼‍♀️.....had a delicious meal in Wetzlar and then took a relaxed train ride back to Dillenburg.

Last big tour before the winter break. Take the HLB (Hessenticket - recommended) to Wetzlar and then along the Dill to Haiger. Very nice tour. Then the great idea came to take a detour to Greifenstein Castle, 2.5 km but altitude. Death to the quadriceps. Feasible for e-bikes. Unfortunately, I was traveling organically. Entry costs 2 euros and the view is magnificent. We didn't bother with the bell museum, but you should see the baroque church. Downhill then 50 kmh and then back on the route. Dillenburg and Herborn are worth seeing.

From Dillenburg or at the latest Dillbrecht you can avoid the 200 meter climb that would otherwise follow by taking the train. This is a good alternative, especially in rain and thunderstorms.
