This route was planned by komoot.
Our plan was to take the train from Wetzlar to Dillbrecht and from there take the Dill cycle path via Dillenburg, Herborn, Ehringshausen and Aßlar back to Wetzlar station. Unfortunately we hadn't counted on the Hessian State Railway. At the station in Gießen we received the usual announcement: .. train service cancelled .... ! Luckily there was still a connection to Dillenburg, our new starting point. From there the route goes through several towns with heavy car traffic. There are only a few sections where you can really say that cycling is fun. Most of the time there are open areas with little shade and constant car traffic. Of course there are people who like routes like this, but we are not one of them. The signposts are fine. But sometimes they were clear - ambiguous. Here a good gut feeling for the direction of travel was sometimes an advantage.
Last big tour before the winter break. Take the HLB (Hessenticket - recommended) to Wetzlar and then along the Dill to Haiger. Very nice tour. Then the great idea came to take a detour to Greifenstein Castle, 2.5 km but altitude. Death to the quadriceps. Feasible for e-bikes. Unfortunately, I was traveling organically. Entry costs 2 euros and the view is magnificent. We didn't bother with the bell museum, but you should see the baroque church. Downhill then 50 kmh and then back on the route. Dillenburg and Herborn are worth seeing.
