Torre degli Alghisi

Highlight • Historical Site

The Alghisi Tower was built between the 12th and 13th centuries with a quadrangular structure, built with large flattened and rusticated limestone drafts.

On the first level, a vaulted room with a trap door gives access to the upper floors. The original entrance was on the east front and is now covered by a leaning building.

On the west front there is an entrance with a vaulted arch. The tower initially had a gable roof, hidden from view by a crenellated masonry.

Subsequently the Tower was raised with a third level, with a masonry always made with dark gray limestone drafts and a more summary workmanship.

Church of St. George, Lovere

Highlight • Religious Site

The church of San Giorgio overlooks the medieval village and is one of the oldest religious buildings in Lovere (initial dating 1252).

From 1462 the enlargement of the church is documented, with a Latin cross plan. In 1485 the upper part of the Soca Tower was demolished and the remaining portion of the tower was used as a base on which to rest the new presbytery of the church, which consequently took on the same plan as the tower.

Torre Soca

Highlight • Historical Site

In the Zucca district stands the "Soca Tower" or Zucca.

The building was built in the 12th century and in 1462 it was used as the foundation of the apse of the church of S. Giorgio: this operation led to the lowering of the tower and the change of function, from defensive to commercial and on the ground floor two large warehouses.

The tower, with a quadrangular base, is made of large square blocks of log, extracted from the nearby Grè quarries, along the lake in the Castro area, well leveled or ashlared.

On the ground floor there are two twin entrances with pointed arches and a splayed rectangular window, while on the first floor there are windows with sandstone rings similar to portals.

Piazza XIII Martiri Fountain

Highlight • Monument

During the first twenty years of the 18th century, the road system between Bergamo, Lovere and the entire Val Camonica was completely redesigned through the construction of a new road which, instead of crossing the historic center, ran along the lake shore.

Thanks to this intervention, a new urban structure was defined, divided into three squares: Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, in the ancient administrative centre, the square of Moline today Piazza Garibaldi and finally the Piazza del Porto, home to the market now Piazza XIII Martiri.

Subsequently, towards the end of the century, the monuments to the protagonists of the Risorgimento, Vittorio Emanuele II, Garibaldi and the Fallen of all the wars, were erected in this last square, the work of Daniele Capitanio and Giacomo Sozzi.

Piazza XIII Martiri is certainly the busiest meeting place in the Borgo di Lovere, with a wide availability of public establishments.

In front of the square is the pier, the docking point for boats for the various destinations on Lake Iseo and where the InfoPoint - Tourist Office is also located.

Trescore–Lovere Tramway

Highlight • Historical Site

The Trescore - Lovere tramway, also known as the Val Cavallina tramway, constituted an integrated transport system that connected the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia across Lake Iseo.

By integrated system we mean the possibility of arriving in Lovere in Porto at the departure of the ferries or the Lovere - Boario - Cividate Camuno tram line.

The steam tram line was activated in stages between 1904 and 1908, with extensive sections in its own headquarters that made it similar to a railway, but it was short-lived and was suppressed in favor of a bus service in 1931 managed by the Busti company.
