Departure from Bersezio. 80% of the itinerary is on very slippery scree (be careful!), 10% is stony and ends with 10% of climbing. Some debris points are exposed, not dangerous, but watch where you step. From the collar, before the summit, the last 100 m+ are climbing. Many points made. Almost at the top there is a rope in a gully: nothing complicated, but if you have a dog it is better to go on the small path on the left, exposed, but the dog can climb up there. When going up to the tip I tied mine, but when going down it is better to untie it, because it is too dangerous. All the effort, however, is amply rewarded by the path, always changing and wild. 360° view from the top... Stunning!! Going up, you skirt Lake Oserot upstream, now free from snow. Upon returning to Bersezio there was a large flock of sheep with two free Maremma sheep who monitored us from a distance; we extended the road for safety.
We set off at 6:30 a.m. from Bersezio. It starts to rain during the climb, but we continue after putting on our raincoats. We reach Bassa di Terrarossa after walking along a wonderful trail that winds through larch trees and rocks. We stow our raincoats in our backpacks (the weather is improving) and from here we turn right and descend towards Lake Oserot. We enter the valley until we reach the military road, which we follow to the fork indicated by a large stone cairn that leads to the summit of Oserot. From here, with another 300 meters to climb, the trail becomes increasingly steep, reaching a gradient of 60%. We climb on gravelly slopes that are muddy at this time of year. We reach a "saddle" where the most technical section begins: we use our hands to make our way through the rocks; at one point, we can use a rope fixed to a rock. Nothing difficult, and the exposure is almost nonexistent. We reach the summit at around 10:00 a.m. The view is beautiful, although it could have been better due to the bad weather. We descend (quickly because the weather seems to be deteriorating) along the ascent route, this time taking the military road to Bassa di Terrarossa, where we stop for lunch. From there, we follow the same trail as the outward journey. A truly beautiful hike with stunning scenery and a fun final ridge. It's a shame about the terrible weather: 8 degrees Celsius in the morning, plus rain. Long pants and a shell jacket are not allowed in July. N.B. Be careful on the ascent trail from Bersezio, as some sections are exposed (steep, scree-covered slopes). Absolutely straightforward, but for this very reason, caution is advised.
