July 7, 2022, 🇮🇹 La Marenca 3 / Runde von Cannobio über Formine und Ronco

Beautiful hike starting in Cannobio. After a decent climb to Campeglio, there are great forest passages with countless streams and small waterfalls. Via the towns of Socragno and Cinzago you come to an old Romanesque church called "San Bartholomeo in Montibus". A little further down you come to Formine, the turning point of this circuit. On the way back you roam through the village of Ronco, which is peppered with great works of art. Back in Campeglio we then hike down again to Cannobio. To cool down, I made a detour to Cannobios Lido.

This hike leads to mountain villages where residents sometimes have different lifestyles. A freight elevator carries groceries up to 40 minutes to the house. We encountered the electricity and sewage "cables" every now and then. We had chance encounters and struck up pleasant conversations. Wandering through the narrow, stony alleys was very impressive. Ronco seems to be a village where art plays a role in the form of paintings, masks, and wooden figures. There you can find the most beautiful and certainly one of the smallest piazzas. The route is partly alpine. The paths are former donkey trails, very rocky, and the terrain requires concentration and a slow pace of walking. When crossing a stream between Formine and Ronco, you should bring a towel, as the water level can vary greatly.

Long walk mainly in the forest with gorgeous views. Frequent fountains for drinking water. Can be hiked in half of the time it took us. But we enjoyed the great company, took many breaks and stopped by at friends.

We met a bear at Formine. Please walk this tour with the necessary caution.

Tour can be done very well with children from the age of 6.

🔹️Sant'Agata 🔹️Socragno 🔹️Cinzago 🔸️San Bartolomeo in Montibus (Church from the 12th century) 🔹️Ronco 🔹️Campeglio Hiking in Italy requires a sense of adventure. Mostly. We're experiencing this 'mostly' again today, including about 4 meters wading knee-deep through a riverbed😅. There's no turning back, we agree on that. 😆 We will be rewarded with a great view of the L. M., which still amazes us after all these years.
