Hiking
Prepare for a difficult hike from Levanto to Monterosso al Mare, a route spanning 9.7 miles (15.6 km) with 2296 feet (700 metres) of elevation gain. This journey typically takes about 5 hours and 42 minutes. The Sentiero Verde Azzurro leads you through varied terrain, from forest paths to stepped sections, all set within the Mediterranean scrubland. You will find peaceful stretches and open views, particularly as you reach Cape Mesco, where the ruins of the 13th-century San Antonio Monastery stand. The trail offers glimpses of the sea through maritime pines, creating a distinct coastal atmosphere. This is a challenging but rewarding experience.
Starting your hike in Levanto is convenient, especially if you arrive by car, as parking is available. After completing the route in Monterosso al Mare, you can easily take the train back to Levanto. The train station in Fegina is right by the sea, making for a smooth return journey. Plan your start time to allow ample daylight for the full duration of the hike.
This trail connects two charming coastal towns within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cinque Terre National Park. Beyond the main path, consider a detour to Punta Mesco for even wider views of the coastline. The route also passes the famous Il Gigante statue carved into the rocks near Monterosso's beaches, adding a unique cultural element to your outdoor adventure.

This route was planned by komoot.
Today we hiked to the first of the 5 villages, "Monterosso," on a wonderful path above the sea. Unfortunately, Monterosso didn't show its best side and we had to make our way back in pouring rain. The steep climb to the Sella di Bagari was quite a challenge for our four-legged seniors, as the path was slippery due to the rain and there were very high steps to climb. Once we got to the top, the sun came out again and the descent to Levanto was a bit more relaxed. Despite the weather, it was a great hike with lots of highlights, hence the many photos 😊
Extremely panoramic circular tour, of incredible beauty in particular when, before descending to Monterosso, you can follow a short detour (5 minutes) which allows you to reach a medieval church in ruins and a panoramic point from which the view extends over all the Cinque Terre up to Portovenere. The excursion is not difficult and, given the modest difference in altitude, it is also suitable for children who are used to walking.
From Monterossa it was a long, steep climb up to a very beautiful vantage point with an old ruin. From there we walked a great way far across the sea to Levanto. In Levanto we then took an extensive bathing break and ate local specialties in a small restaurant😃. Then it was back through town towards Monterossa, this time via the inland mountain route. It was a really great round with a few meters of altitude and wonderful views and bathing fun 🏖🏝🏞⛰️
