Hiking

This difficult hike, Trail 227 to Rifugio Baroni al Brunone, takes you on a challenging journey through the Fiumenero Valley. You will cover 8.9 miles (14.4 km) with a significant elevation gain of 4743 feet (1446 metres), typically requiring 7 hours and 52 minutes to complete. The route begins on shady forest paths, gradually transitioning to rugged alpine terrain. As you ascend, you will encounter numerous waterfalls and cross wooden bridges over rushing streams, with chains sometimes assisting your progress over slippery sections. The scenery is dominated by impressive peaks like Redorta Peak and Scais summit, offering a true wild mountain experience.

To begin your hike, head to the parking area located near the cemetery in Fiumenero. You can obtain a parking ticket from the nearby bar before you start your adventure. This route is best undertaken during favorable weather conditions due to its demanding nature and exposed alpine sections. Always check local forecasts and trail conditions before setting out on this long and strenuous journey.

This trail leads to Rifugio Baroni al Brunone, the oldest refuge in the Orobie mountains, originally built in 1894. It stands as the sole structure within the pristine Fiumenero valley, offering a unique historical context to your trek. The route also connects with the Alta Via delle Orobie, a renowned scenic trek in the Central Alps. Keep an eye out for ibex near the refuge; many hikers report sightings of these wild animals in the area.

This route is always amazing, really challenging but that's what makes it unique!

I didn't walk all the way to the Rifugio but turned back after 1130 meters of altitude. It would have been about 45 minutes and 350 meters in altitude. But after, thank God, the mild course of Corona 1 week before, I didn't want too much too soon. The tour is very signposted, which is unfortunately not always the case …

The original plan foresaw the ascent to Pizzo di Redorta. After the Bruno hut, wet snow to trace up to the glacier, thick clouds and zero visibility, and some discharges led me to give up.
