The trail is located near Bettola in the Piacenza province of Italy. While specific parking details are not provided, it's generally accessible from the surrounding area. It's advisable to check local signage or resources like visitpiacenza.it for the most current information on trailhead access and parking options.
The trail is generally considered dog-friendly. However, always keep your dog on a leash and be mindful of other hikers and wildlife. Ensure your dog is comfortable with varied terrain, including potentially muddy sections.
The Perino Waterfalls Trail is beautiful throughout the year, but spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and vibrant scenery. During spring, the waterfalls are often at their fullest. Summer can be warm, while winter might present icy conditions, requiring extra caution.
Based on available information, there is no mention of required permits or entrance fees for hiking the Perino Waterfalls Trail (via CAI Route 155). It is generally open to the public.
The trail is rated as moderate. While generally accessible even for those without extensive training, some sections require caution due to past landslides. It's important to wear appropriate, waterproof trekking shoes as parts can be muddy. Good directional sense is also recommended due to potentially faded signs.
The Perino Waterfalls Trail typically takes around 2 hours to complete. The total distance is approximately 6.2 kilometers (3.9 miles).
The trail follows the Perino stream, featuring untarmacked roads and wooded sections. You'll encounter stratified rock formations and can expect some muddy areas, especially after rain. The path includes benches and railings in certain sections for safety and enjoyment.
The primary highlight is the series of five waterfalls, including the impressive Perino Falls and Toboga Waterfall. You'll also pass by the historic Mulino di Riè, an old abandoned mill, and the Church of Saint Lawrence the Martyr.
Yes, the trail can be suitable for families, but parents should be aware of the moderate difficulty and potentially muddy sections. Some areas might require extra caution due to past landslides. The presence of benches and railings in parts can enhance safety and comfort for younger hikers.
It is highly recommended to wear appropriate, waterproof trekking shoes due to potentially muddy sections. Bring water, snacks, and consider trekking poles for added stability, especially on uneven terrain. A camera is also a good idea to capture the scenic waterfalls.
The trail is generally well-marked with CAI number 155, typically indicated by white or red marks. However, some sources suggest that signs might be faded in certain areas, so a good directional sense is beneficial.
While the trail leads to most of the five waterfalls, one of them may be inaccessible due to a recent landslide. The path otherwise provides access to the other beautiful cascades, including the largest one which forms a natural pool.
Logbook I don't know what Komoot has lately with uploading photos is a nightmare... Now it has even uploaded an entire double album.. So what can I say nice little excursions My knee was not so happy.... We are training for the next one we are going to do.... And I can only say that the only flaw is the fact that since there is a bit of mud and the path is not very well maintained in some places (but I also understand that it requires time and dedication) you have to pay a lot of attention to where you place your feet.... Having said that, Unfortunately we have seen with our own eyes, that there are still people who venture on these paths In our opinion with unsuitable footwear.... so with simple gym shoes.... where in fact in some cases they continued to slip on the mud... Or with small children and therefore with unsuitable footwear and so try to imagine.... as you will see we were equipped with boots poles trekking clothing..... However, in some cases, especially on excursions like these, even if small, I would avoid going with unsuitable footwear because then when we slip, alas, no one laughs anymore but it makes you cry. I repeat the beautiful waterfalls as you may have noticed in the photos and we are very happy. Ah, the 1st waterfall, you have to go down a lot and my knee was feeling the effects. So we opted to go back up.... But the path is passable.
