September 19, 2022, Villnöß5: Almwanderung - Vier Hütten unter den imposanten Geislerwänden

Start: paid car park Zanser Alm (2022: 8€) Character: Beautiful hike on steep tracks and farm roads through rural cultural landscape, intact mountain forests and blooming alpine meadows. In wet weather, the relatively steep descent from the Geisler Alm to the Duslerhütte (path 36) can be very slippery. The alternative on such days is the road. Four alpine pastures line the path, which leads through beautiful mountain forest and over alpine meadows with great views. The Geisler peaks are enthroned above everything, and you can get very close to them on the Adolf-Munkel-Weg. In early summer, the meadows inspire with their splendor of flowers, in autumn the yellow larches provide color accents.

A beautiful route that starts from the parking lot itself. Normally people do it in the opposite direction, but I personally think it is better to go counter-clockwise, both because of the hard climb in the other direction and because of the views of the mountain range that you have at all times.

Standing directly on the Geisler peaks is simply magnificent. The Geisler hut is already open, the others will probably not open until June 15th.

Today we took a risk: there was a mix of sun and clouds and we drove to the Villnöss Valley to see the impressive Geisler peaks. Unfortunately, the cloud cover was very dense again, so although it was a lovely hike, we were never able to see the peaks. There were lots of babbling brooks. I love this sound almost as much as the sound of waves. And if you walk a little further, it's totally quiet again. The Geisler Alm has lots of places to lie down and it must be great to relax there and enjoy the panorama in the sun. Today, however, it was rather cool, so we did the round more or less in one go and then at the end we had something to eat in the Zanser Schwaige. We're staying for a few more days and the sun is supposed to come back on Sunday - maybe we'll hike up there again then.

Scenic hiking trails lead you to the alpine hut at the foot of the Villnösser Geisler. There are many different hiking trails to reach the Geisleralm, all excellently signposted.

After the Geisler peaks were hidden in the clouds last year, this time they were full of sunshine

The highlight of this tour is the alpine meadow just above the Gschnagenhardt Alm. The Adolf Munkel path leads directly under the Geisler Puez towers, which is easy but incredibly spectacular. The tour is well known so you have to get there early. A very narrow road leads from St. Magdalena to the Zanser Alm - 8€ parking lot and rising. The stone pine and lark forest is wonderful. The Geisler Alm was now a bit too touristy for me. I really liked the Dusler Alm.

Super nice hike. Not recommended at the weekend because the huts are just too crowded. If you take your food with you, everything is perfect. The parking lot is on the Alm, costs 8 euros and is quickly full if you are late. So be there early.
