The trail primarily consists of wide paths that traverse beautiful alpine meadows and pastures. You can expect magnificent panoramic views throughout the hike, with some sections requiring sure-footedness. Sturdy shoes with non-slip soles are highly recommended.
This trail offers spectacular, continuous panoramic views of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. Key highlights include the Ruins of Altrasein Castle, the Dolomitenblickrunde Trail itself, and stunning vistas like the View of the Dolomites from Mudlerhof to Niederrasen, the general View of the Dolomites, and a View of Val Pusteria. You'll also pass by various lodges such as Rossalm, Hinteralm, and Schatzerhütte, and reach the Putzjoch, offering superb views of Sas de Putia, Aferer, and Villnösser Geisler.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, since you'll be passing through alpine pastures with grazing livestock like sheep, goats, cattle, and horses, it's essential to keep your dog on a leash to ensure the safety of both your pet and the animals. Always clean up after your dog.
The best time to hike the Dolomitenblickrunde Trail is typically from late spring to early autumn (roughly May to October) when the paths are clear of snow and the weather is most favorable for hiking. During these months, you'll experience lush alpine meadows and clear panoramic views. Always check local weather conditions before you go.
The Dolomitenblickrunde Trail is located within the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Generally, there are no specific permits required or entrance fees to hike on the established trails within the park. However, always adhere to nature park regulations, such as staying on marked paths and not disturbing wildlife or plants.
While specific parking details for the 'Castello Altrasein ruins' starting point are not readily available, for the broader Dolomitenblickrunde Trail on Mount Plose, parking is typically available at the Plose cable car valley station or other designated parking areas near the trailheads. It's advisable to check local signage or the official Plose website for the most current parking information.
Yes, the route incorporates sections of several other paths. The majority of the tour follows the Dolomitenblickrunde Trail (87% of the route). It also includes parts of the Ruinenweg Altrasen (21%), Heache - Loach (18%), Lottersteig (4%), Kirmle - Schüssler (7% and 6%), Pichla - Kirmle (5%), Botenplatz (6%), Maurerfeld (3% and 2%), and Goste (3%).
Given the moderate difficulty and alpine environment, you should bring proper hiking equipment. This includes sturdy shoes with non-slip soles, rain protection, a warm jacket (even in summer, as mountain weather can change quickly), plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection. A map or GPS device is also recommended.
Yes, the trail passes by several alpine lodges, such as Rossalm, Hinteralm, and Schatzerhütte. These typically offer refreshments and food, providing good opportunities for a break during your hike. It's a great way to experience alpine farming firsthand.
The Dolomitenblickrunde Trail is generally classified as moderate. While it offers wide paths and beautiful scenery, it involves an ascent and descent of over 500 meters. Some sections may require sure-footedness. Families with older, experienced hiking children might find it enjoyable, but it might be challenging for very young children or those unaccustomed to longer hikes with elevation changes. Shorter, easier variants of the Dolomitenblickrunde might be available in the area if you're looking for a less strenuous option.
While specific public transport details for the 'Castello Altrasein ruins' starting point are not provided, the Dolomitenblickrunde Trail on Mount Plose is generally accessible via public transport connections to the Plose cable car valley station. From there, you can often take the cable car up to the starting points of various trails. Check local bus schedules and cable car operating times for the most up-to-date information.
This morning it was still pouring with rain, but from 10am the sun was shining and the sky was blue ☀️. So we chose the Dolomitenblickrunde from Niederrasen as our farewell tour. We walked a bit along the road and then steeply up a beautiful forest path to the Gasthof Mudler with a fantastic view. After a coffee and cake break, we started the descent through the forest with more beautiful views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. It was a truly beautiful farewell tour with a great view 😍
A very tough walk. You will be rewarded with beautiful views.
