A true eagle's nest at the foot of the Marmarole, immersed in the protected area of the Natura 2000 network, the Ciareido Refuge (1,969 m) is a true architectural jewel of the Great War. Its construction dates back to 1890 by the Alpine battalions of Feltre, Pieve di Cadore and Gemona, as a military shelter and observation point in the context of preparations for the defense of the areas close to the border with Austria. Used in the following years as a refuge for hunters and a stable for goats, in the early 70s, thanks to the volunteer work of the town of Lozzo di Cadore and its CAI section, a general renovation was started to make it a high altitude refuge.
