The Corolla delle Ginestre Trail, as mapped here, is approximately 10.9 km long and generally takes around 4 hours to complete. Keep in mind that this duration can vary based on your pace, breaks, and the specific sections you choose to explore.
The trail is particularly beautiful when the broom (ginestra) flowers are in bloom, typically in late spring and early summer, which is also when the trail gets its name. Autumn offers pleasant temperatures and vibrant foliage. While possible in winter, some sections can be very steep and might be challenging with adverse weather conditions.
Specific trailhead parking information isn't provided in the tour data, but the Corolla delle Ginestre route generally traverses the hills around Brisighella, Casola Valsenio, and Riolo Terme. You'll likely find parking options in or near these towns, which serve as common access points for the broader trail network.
While specific regulations for dogs on this exact route aren't detailed, trails within the Parco Regionale Vena del Gesso Romagnola generally allow dogs on a leash. It's always best to check local signage or park regulations before you go to ensure a smooth trip with your furry friend.
Generally, there are no specific entrance fees or permits required to access the trails within the Parco Regionale Vena del Gesso Romagnola. However, always respect park regulations regarding waste, noise, and wildlife to help preserve this beautiful natural area.
The trail offers a diverse landscape, featuring pleocenic clays, Miocene gypsum, and marly sandstone rock formations. You'll hike through wooded sections with black hornbeam and downy oak, as well as expansive arid areas adorned with large patches of broom. Expect breathtaking panoramic views throughout the journey.
Along this route, you can discover several interesting spots. You'll pass by the impressive Vena del Gesso Romagnola Ridge, explore the Ca' Castellina Abyss and the Quarry of Lapis Specularis at Ca' Castellina. There are also stunning views like the View of Riolo Terme and the View of Grotta della Toresina and the Vena del Gesso Hills. The charming Crivellari di Gesso Village is also along the way.
Yes, this route incorporates sections of several other trails. You'll find yourself on parts of the Corolla delle Ginestre (75%), Alta Via dei Parchi: Tappa 16 (58%), La Via del Gesso (58%), and Sentiero Luigi Rava (58%), among others. This allows for varied hiking experiences and connections to a wider network.
Yes, the broader Corolla delle Ginestre route is designed with accommodations in mind, offering multiple stages. On this specific komoot tour, you'll find the Agriturismo Pietra di Luna, which is a restaurant. The nearby towns of Brisighella, Casola Valsenio, and Riolo Terme also offer various dining and lodging options.
While this specific komoot tour is rated 'moderate', the broader Corolla delle Ginestre network can include very steep sections, particularly when descending from areas like 'Sella di ca' di Budrio' or approaching refuges from Monte Battagliola. Be prepared for varying elevations and ensure you have appropriate footwear. Starting early can help you avoid the midday heat and enjoy the views in peace.
Given its 'moderate' difficulty rating and some potentially steep sections, this specific route might be more suitable for families with older children or those accustomed to hiking. The broader Corolla delle Ginestre offers multiple loop options and stages, so you might find easier sections within the larger network that are more family-friendly.
2:20 to Crivellari (7 km); climb up Monte Volpe with steep slopes, exposed sections, and slippery terrain. After 9.45 km, descending from Monte Volpe, you can turn left, instead of going straight towards Monte Mauro. Once you reach Via di Monte Mauro, on the right after a short while you will find the last stretch of path on the left, which passes near the Lucerna cave and which, with steep slopes (S3), reaches the starting/finishing point.

A short but demanding trek for all the exposed sections. Don't suffer from vertigo! The trails are all clearly visible and used both on foot and by bike, even if they are not marked on Komoot! The difference in height is greater but Komoot scores less and less ... as well as the kilometers .... too bad.
