Hiking

A pristine forest, a clear mountain stream, and a hidden waterfall await you on this picturesque walk along the banks of the Lech River between Lech and Zug. With almost no inclines, you'll be constantly accompanied by the rushing sound of the "last wild" Alpine river on this family-friendly tour.

You start at the Dorfhus bus stop. Upstream, you'll hike through the heart of the charming Walser community, soaking up the village's vibrant atmosphere. After crossing the riverbank, you'll gradually leave the village's traditional wooden houses behind you. With the scent of larch, fir, and white pine in your nose, you'll follow the rocky riverbed of the Lech.

Near Zug, you'll finally branch off onto a short, steep section. After a short climb, you'll be greeted by the soothing thunder of the Stierlochbach waterfall, whose cool spray and moss-green rocks will instantly dispel any tension – a true place of power that radiates an almost magical calm and energy.

On your way back, it's worth stopping at the Fischerwirt restaurant by the fish pond in Zug, which has been inviting you to rest and enjoy fresh trout since 1976. Lech is easily accessible by bus and car. With some water, a camera, and a desire to relax, you'll be perfectly equipped for this short stroll along the banks of the Lech River.

Bridge Over the Stierlochbach

Highlight • Bridge

Here a wooden bridge leads over the rushing, wild Stierlochbach. The valley is really beautiful and if you dare you can put your feet in the freezing cold stream.

Stierlochbach waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The Lech River shapes one of Europe's last remaining wild river landscapes. It flows through the Lech Valley, over the Lech Falls in Füssen, on to Augsburg, and finally flows into the Danube near Rain. What makes this river so special is its color: ranging from light blue-turquoise to jade green. The Lech owes this color to two factors: the high mineral content of the water and the low water temperature, which averages just six degrees Celsius.
