This loop begins in Kamnik, not far from Ljubljana – exactly where professional cyclist Luka Mezgec starts his training rides. From the edge of town, the climb to the Črnivec Pass stretches for a good ten kilometers with a pleasant gradient. At the top, views of the surrounding mountains open up, followed by a long descent into the Savinja Valley.
In Luče, you leave the main traffic and turn onto a narrow, quiet road along a small stream. There you'll find no villages, only isolated farms, an old mill – and plenty of peace and quiet. From Podvolovljek, the second longer climb of the loop begins: slightly steeper than the one to Črnivec, but paved throughout. With every meter, it becomes more alpine.
Shortly before the top of the pass, you reach the turnoff towards Velika Planina – famous for being the finish line of the fourth stage of the Tour of Slovenia and worth a detour for more than just that. Afterwards you roll back to Kamnik along lonely paths and quiet curves.
