Rumburg Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

Beautifully hidden in the forest stands this ruin. It is a high to late medieval fortification, of which large remnants of the surrounding walls have been preserved or restored.

Rundeck Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

This beautiful castle ruin is popularly known as Rundeck. This name, as you can see from the photos, is much more fitting than its official name, Stossenberg. Fascinating!

Feste Haus Eibwang

Highlight • Historical Site

Castle lore understands solid houses as defensive residential buildings, which were often erected without enclosing walls, occasionally without ditches and mostly as servants' seats. Eibwang is the last structure preserved in this way in the Eichstätter area.

A beautiful autumn hike in the Altmühltal with a sunny 12 degrees.
Tour from naturpark-altmuehltal.de/routen/burgenweg_im_anlautertal-38

On Sunday I drove to the Altmühltal and there to the outskirts of Enkering. This is where my tour "Burgenweg im Anlautertal" started.

Today was my first time in this valley. Very nice tour at the beginning with snow 😲. It was also cold and windy. At some point, however, it became pleasant to walk 👍👍👍. A very nice hike.

The castle trail in the Anlautertal is also loop 18 on the Altmühltal Panorama Trail and is well signposted accordingly.

The tour starts from Enkering and immediately goes steadily uphill to the first castle ruin. The Rumburg ruin still has some masonry and offers an impressive view over the Anlauter and Schwarzach valleys.

You should save yourself the round to the Limeswall near Schafhausen. Better to take Enkering and the Rumburg with you.

🚀 The hike starts on Rumburgstrasse in Enkering at 🌡 +14.0° Celsius and cloudy ⛅️ skies 🧭 towards Erlingshofen. First 🥾🥾 you climb up to the ruins of the legendary 🏰 Rumburg from the 14th century and continue up to the hill. At the 🌳 forest, follow the dirt road past the dilapidated Schafhof, then keep right along the edge …

A pleasant tour to Erlinghofen.
The subsequent "hitchhike" on the bike path to Schafhauser Mühle is a real nuisance, especially on hot summer days. The entire route runs through Schafhausen. I skipped it. It's not interesting!

Showing Translation

The first half of the path is the more beautiful: there you mostly walk on clipped meadow paths on the edge of the forest from castle ruin to castle ruin. In the second half you have to master a gravel path that is almost 4 km long - I was pretty grilled today 🥵 I gave myself the detour to …
