With his 86 years, my old man 🎅 did very well. 👍 The (half) day tour on the border along the Blies with wide + narrow meadow + forest paths is very varied 🏞👌. In particular, the views over the Bliesgau to the Vosges ⛰ are great. The passage restrictions😬 were successfully ignored, which turned out to be good. But please do not copy ... 😜
A very beautiful, varied tour and always wide views as far as the Vosges... However, today it was (almost) impossible to walk in places... Lots of water and mud! But... It was fun 😊👍🏻
This route is actually a premium route, but at this time of year I can only recommend the route to a limited extent! Due to the long rainy season, the paths are completely muddy almost everywhere, so you definitely have to take a few shoes with you to change. Otherwise it is a very scenic area, you can even see the Vosges in some elevated places 👌😊
A varied and beautiful trail, we all agreed. However, the signage was a bit poor in some places. We got lost in the same spot as five years ago 🤦♀️. Fortunately, it wasn't a big detour. At another point, the trail was closed, but unfortunately, no alternative route was indicated. We had to guess, and the red and white barrier tape was the solution. Overall, we enjoyed the day and the hike 😊.
Mud, mud and loam at least half the way. I'm sure I won't run anymore.
The Blies Border Trail is a diverse journey through nature, history, and border experiences. Even at the starting point, you can sense the tranquility of the place, before the trail leads through shady forests and past exciting stops such as the bat trail and the boules park. Time and again, small windows into the past open up – whether at the moss-covered boundary stone, the war memorial, or the historic mill on the Blies River. Between idyllic ponds, pristine meadows, and expansive views from the lookout cross, you'll experience the full diversity of the Bliesgau region. Animal encounters, such as the Highland cattle peacefully standing in the water, also make the tour a special experience. The lovingly designed information points and panels impart knowledge about nature and species conservation, while quiet spots like the "Tree of Remembrance" invite you to pause and reflect. 💡 Tip: Plan enough time to discover the many small details along the trail. An early start to enjoy the soft morning light and breaks at the viewpoints are particularly worthwhile – this is how the Blies-Grenz-Weg unfolds its full magic.
Start/Finish Sitterswald, hiking car park, roundabout L106/Nauwieserstr.; Nauwieserstr. 1a, 66271 Kleinblitterdorf The path is strenuous in parts of the ascents and descents - a good level of fitness is required - it is moderately difficult. It goes over meadows, forest paths and trails, which are often rocky and muddy, even in dry weather - waterproof and non-slip hiking boots are recommended. The path is very varied, partly past the Blies, always along the border to France. But it also goes over the heights of the Bliesgau with a great view as far as the Vosges. In summer you should note that the path partly leads over meadows without shade, so remember to bring sun protection. The path is clearly marked with the sign shown
A nice spring round. We walked this route a few years ago and today we walked the route in reverse order. Blue skies in places and very pleasant temperatures. The Blies still had a lot of water and the Scottish highland cattle were again very worth seeing. However, the path was very muddy and not that easy to walk. Nevertheless, we really liked the views. A squirrel was “caught” and laid out a Mosel stone. Another highlight was breakfast at the fishing pond.
