Edelfrauengrab waterfalls

Highlight (Segment) • Waterfall

Beautiful waterfall that you can walk to via steps and footbridges. A plaque tells the gruesome story of the noblewoman's grave.

A truly beautiful little stone bridge—somewhat inconspicuous, as it's well camouflaged by the moss. Most hikers simply walked past, as it's located a few meters off the trail.

Great views down to Ottenhöfen. A relatively new mountain hut offers plenty of space and is a great place to stop for a snack.

Trail Reviews

September 17, 2025, Karlsruher Grat ohne Klettersteig von Ottenhöfen

A truly fantastic, but very strenuous hike. It climbs steeply and then descends just as steeply. The absolute highlights are the Edelfrauengrab Waterfalls and the Brennte Schrofen viewpoint. Shortly before the via ferrata, we were visited by three mountain goats, who can be a bit pushy. They aren't shy and are used to being fed. Fitness and sturdy footwear are a must on this tour. The terrain is very uncomfortable in places, with lots of roots and rocks of various sizes.

The Genießerpfad - Karlsruher Grat in the northern Black Forest near Ottenhöfen offers a waterfall path, wonderful views and an alpine ridge crossing. The Karlsruher Grat is currently nominated as the most beautiful hiking trail in Germany for 2023 by the specialist magazine “Wandermagazin”. This means that the circular hiking trail can rightly hope for the coveted title😊👍

The premium hiking trail Karlsruher Grat has an adventure score of 78 points. 36% narrow paths and paths. 64% nature trails. It has been nominated for Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2023, including the Durbacher Weitblick. For me, today was a consistently great lap. Rightly a premium hiking trail.

The Karlsruher Grat is an approximately 700m long ridge near Ottenhöfen. It is not a classic via ferrata because there are no iron steps or guide ropes. In addition, the path over the rugged rocks is not marked, i.e. you have to be careful where you scramble along. Appropriate footwear makes climbing much easier! The climbing rocks were the highlight of today's tour, because we had a lot of fun when we slowly worked our way over the ridge, sometimes on all fours, over the rock with good grip. The Karlsruher Grat is part of the gourmet path of the same name. A premium tour that also has a gorge and waterfalls (Gottschlaegbach at the Edelfrauengrab) and the “Brennte Schrofen” viewing platform. The highest point of the tour is at 820m at the Gasthaus Bosenstein. We found the way down to the valley to be tedious. Almost 500 HM it was mostly steep and straight downhill. That went on knees and ligaments. On the other hand, the beginning of the tour is completely different, where the path leads through varied serpentines from Ottenhöfen to the noblewoman's grave.

Easter vacation in the Black Forest. Our first hiking stop at Ottenhöfen, inspired by the Monday girls. Greetings to you three, that was a top tour, which is rightly a candidate for "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail". Everything that made the hiker's heart happy was there: Great forest paths and paths, the beautiful Edelfrauengrab waterfalls, the alpine via ferrata, which we didn't quite make it and took the detour, wonderful views of the Brennte Schrofen and the descent over forest and meadows. Unfortunately, my battery gave up on the last few kilometers and I had to edit the tour afterwards. Now all photos are unsorted 🙈. Nevertheless, it was a great start to the hiking week 🤩🥰⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

10 years ago today I had my brother's stem cells transplanted. A long odyssey began, which I somehow survived with a lot of luck and a lot of support from great friends, family and doctors. Even in 2023, so many people will still die from this sh... disease. Therefore my call: “OPEN YOUR MOUTH, PUT YOUR CHICKS IN, BE A DONOR!” It's so easy to save a life. Blood donations are just as important, because without them I wouldn't be alive today. I would like to thank everyone who was and still is there for me. This was the symbol of this wonderful tour that I was able to take with my two very favorite people, my sister Stephie and my son Winston. ❤️

I avoided the ridge itself because of the heat. The connoisseur path is absolutely lovely. 🍀🌺 The climbs and descents are strenuous and surrounded by a lot of harsh nature. Sturdy shoes are a must 🥾🥾🥾 I chose the starting point at the train station. There are enough 🅿️ available for traveling by car.

Great tour, first through beautiful forest sections and then up the steps at the Gottschlägbach, which are almost reminiscent of a gorge. And finally the ridge, which I underestimated a little and which turned out to be quite good. Very varied but also very busy. There were small queues here and there, especially on the ridge.
