!Notice! Westweg diversion between Weithäusleplatz and Kreuzlehütte:
The Westweg is diverted here due to logging operations. In the Langmartskopf (Kreuzlehütte) area, the trail rejoins the regular route. The diversion is well signposted! Please note! Danger to life exists within the closed areas! The diversion runs along the Seemißweg, Dürreychweg, and Lerchensteinweg forest roads.
The expected and foreseeable duration of the closure will be announced later.

The first stage of the Albtal.Abenteuer.Track, with its more than 1,000 meters of elevation gain, is quite challenging. But in return, you can expect plenty of exciting trail sections and magnificent views – and the trail through the wilderness can be a bit strenuous. The 26-kilometer hike is designed as a circular route. The starting point is at the train station in Bad Herrenalb.

You leave the spa town and immediately head uphill. At first, you'll hike along a wide forest path, then the adventure track seemingly turns into the middle of the forest, so keep your eyes peeled for the markings. At times, you'll hike quite steeply up the forest, and the path is often only vaguely visible. If you ever lose sight of the trail, just keep going uphill. At one point, the trail is so steep that a few ropes will help you scramble. You'll negotiate roots, rocks, and fallen tree trunks on your way up.

Once you reach the top, you'll be on the Westweg. You'll follow the popular long-distance trail for a few kilometers, passing beautiful viewpoints along the way. Enjoy the magnificent view over the Northern Black Forest and the Rhine plain—you've more than earned it.

At the Hahnenfalz Hut, you'll leave the scenic Westweg and hike back down a narrow path into the Alb Valley. Shortly after, the trail climbs back uphill, with a few more meters of elevation to conquer. You zigzag your way back uphill. Enjoy the peace and the spicy scent of the dense forest. As the trees open up again, you'll have a fantastic view of the distance you've already covered. Time to take a short breather. But the view gets even better. The flat trail continues along a rocky path to the Teufelsmühle (Devil's Mill). From here, the Rhine plain practically lies at your feet. The viewpoint is over 900 meters above sea level and offers a stunning panorama. You can refresh yourself at the neighboring hiking lodge.

From now on, it's all downhill – and quite steep in places. Back down in the valley, it's not far until you see the first houses of Bad Herrenalb again. You walk past the outdoor pool and continue to the town center. Around the spa gardens, you'll find several options for a well-deserved rest.

Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) near Bad Herrenalb

Highlight • Natural Monument

Sequoias in the Black Forest? This is possible thanks to King Wilhelm I of Württemberg. The nature-loving ruler was a great friend of giant trees. So he had seeds sent from America for his botanical garden in Stuttgart, the Wilhelma. However, there is said to have been a mishap when ordering: instead of a lot of seeds (about 15 grams), the royal gardener received “a lot” (500 grams). That's why you can find North American trees in the Black Forest and on the Swabian Jura from time to time, including here.

Albtal Adventure Trail, section

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Challenging steep climb - sometimes you have to find the path. This is a logging forest aisle - smaller trees and twigs were simply left lying and the forest area should be left to its own devices in the future.

Stream crossing

Highlight (Segment) • River

A path not taken by the "average" hiker, which makes it all the more exciting. It's fun, but you should definitely look for and find the markers!

Schweizerkopf Hut Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

A magnificent vantage point overlooking the Gaistal Valley and the Baden-Baden Mountains all the way to the Rhine plain. From the Schweizerkopf, on a clear day, breathtaking views of the Vosges Mountains and sometimes even across the Saverne Depression to Lorraine are offered. To the north, the view extends to the Imperial Cathedral of Speyer, and to the east, the Swabian Forest can be seen.

Very nice tour, but horribly marked in places. Difficult to take the right turns without an app.

On October 8th, there were 4 of us (women) on this beautiful, demanding route and we were totally thrilled.
Today 3 of the 4 went out again with 5 other hikers. And even if the 🌞 was missing, everyone is enthusiastic about this hike.
Any time!

One wilderness to go please!
So one thing can't be denied: The name says it all and the track is great cinema!
The entertainment program even starts at the train station, since the train is no slouch! If the train is 15 minutes late, then at least something is offered to those waiting. In this case it was a poor …

Today I tackled the Albtal adventure tour and I can warmly recommend it to anyone who wants to hike abroad: I remembered some of the hiking trails in Italy, for example!

Another great tour. Very long, through primeval forest. Partly with a rope climb. Definitely worth it, via the Albtalsteig. 👌👍👍

very strenuous tour.... the climbs are killer... but when you get to the top, the views are magnificent, be careful on the steep descent that you don't scurry past the devil's rock....

The name says it all: really adventurous ascent trails. Rocky, not maintained and we sometimes had to find our way. We were glad we didn't have to walk down those stretches.

Very varied, the short stages on forest highways are for relaxation.

We can only recommend everyone to start this adventure.
