Hiking

Diverse moorland landscapes, lush forests, and clear lakes await you on this circular hike. Although not particularly challenging technically, the tour is somewhat demanding in terms of fitness.

Your route begins at the train station in Mölln. Leaving town, you walk past the cemetery and enter the peaceful city forest along the Waldhallenweg trail. It smells of damp earth, and the ground is covered with ferns. You'll soon reach Lake Lütauer. On its long jetty, you can dip your feet in the water and enjoy the tranquility.

The trail continues through dense forest to Lake Drüsensee. On the western shore, you can repeatedly glimpse the shimmering water through the trees. The route skirts wetlands along the Hellbach stream, later alternating between forests and fields.

Over the Carmen Langmaack Bridge, you follow Lake Schmalsee and soon reach the Uhlenkolk Nature Park Center. Here you can explore the wildlife enclosure, various adventure trails, and an exhibition about local nature.

As soon as you cross the Mühlengraben, you'll find yourself in the heart of Mölln's old town, with its narrow streets, old half-timbered houses, and the famous 13th-century St. Nicolai Church, which forms the center of town. Here, you can thank your feet for their perseverance in one of the numerous cafés and restaurants.

Jetty and bathing area on Lake Lütau

Highlight • Lake

Lake Lütauer See is just one of many lakes in this area; certainly one of the most beautiful. A hiking trail leads almost entirely around it; there's a swimming area and a jetty from which you can easily access the very clear water.

One of several beautiful lakes in the Hellbachtal Nature Reserve. The Drüsensee is the largest, with crystal-clear water and is almost entirely wooded.

Carmen Langmaack, who passed away in 2015 at an advanced age, left a remarkable legacy to the town of Mölln. A foundation was established to promote nature conservation, animal welfare, and environmental education – entirely in her spirit. Although she no longer lived in Mölln for many years, she maintained a close connection to her homeland and the surrounding nature. Today, a beautiful footpath with a wooden bridge between the lakes at Schmalsee commemorates her: the Carmen Langmaack Trail.

The Uhlenkolk Nature Park Center in Mölln is a great place to start your visit to the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park. Here you'll learn fascinating facts about the 470 square kilometer area and its special features. The Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park is located in the picturesque hilly region of East Holstein, shaped by the last Ice Age – right between Hamburg, Lübeck, and the former border. The nature park awaits you with a diverse landscape of forests, numerous lakes, and historic cultural monuments.

Trail Reviews

February 9, 2022, 220209 Runde Mölln - Lüttauer See - Drüsensee - Hellbachtal - Schmalsee

This Wednesday we were politically correct: equal with 5 women and 5 men and ecologically, because the bus was also used.👏 This time I only had to walk behind, because Trittau884 led this hike for us.😁 It went again to the lake district south of Mölln. In every season there is always a great, very varied landscape. We walked along various lakes and a bit along the Hellbach. Because of tree felling work we had to shorten the tour a bit. 😢 Finally we walked through the wildlife park "Uhlenkolk". Its visit is free of charge and also highly recommended for a short walk. 👍 It was once again a pleasant round with relaxed hikers. The weather showed nasty shades of gray in all variations, but at least it stayed dry.👏
