Today we did another nice tour in the Tiefen Grund before heading back home
Today we took advantage of the nice weather and went out into nature. In the deep valley we climbed many steps up to the Brandbaude. The view is simply amazing. It is definitely very busy there at the weekend, but we didn't have to wait long and our drinks were ready. After a short rest we continued into the Polenztal, along the idyllic Polenz river.
Hello everyone! Greetings and cheers from the Brandaussicht. Joe
Small Saturday tour through the Polenztal and the Schulzengrund up to the Brandbaude to meet Torsten and Axel there, purely by chance, who were on the second stage of the "Poet-Musician-Painter's Path" today. It was nice to meet you. I wish you a nice journey.
The deep ground is very muddy if it rained the day before. The fire escapes... yes, there must be around 1,000 of them. So, sturdy shoes and a good level of fitness are required. The stairs are tough.
The hike goes through the quiet lower Polenztal (red dot) past the wooden rake, which is supposed to protect the villages from driftwood. Following the Polenz, the path turns approx. 2 km further to the right into the Schulzengrund. The Schulzengrund is a very quiet gorge with old trees. This gorge leads up to the Brand via many steps and stones. Once at the top, turn right towards Brandaussicht. Up here there is always hustle and bustle with beautiful gastronomy and a great view, just "Balcony of Saxon Switzerland" 😀👀. Another flying visit to the Thümmelgrotte (right next to the Brandaussicht, only much quieter) and the Hafersäcke view (from here you look over to Waitzdorf). The path then leads down many steps into the valley. If you feel like it, turn left and walk along the street for about 300 to 400 m and then climb up the many steps on the opposite side of the street (pay attention to the white scythe on the stone) to the Waitzdorfer Aussicht. I turned right at the bottom and followed the babbling brook to the parking lot.
Today I only did a short walk for my project. The weather isn't great but anyone can do it in the sun😄. The climb to the Brand was, as always, challenging. I finally made it to the Thümelgrotte, shame on me, it was the first time🫣. The descent was then leisurely through the Schulzengrund and from the Waltersdorfer Mühle through the Polenztal to the car park. It was a beautiful, pleasant and varied walk.
Start with a beautiful hiking trail next to the creek of the Tiefen Grund. Continue over the fire steps - there should be about 800 - to the fire view, the so-called balcony of Saxon Switzerland. Nice view, but there is a bit too much hustle and bustle here due to the on-site gastronomy. I like the rocks more, where you can unpack your sandwich and let your soul and legs dangle. We continued downhill through the romantic "Schulzengrund" gorge path. Back on the Polenztalweg, we even spotted a few March cups, although the main area of the March cup meadows is not to be found here. The white thick flower heads are just too cute.

The tour is suitable for children, but only partially suitable for dogs due to the iron staircase on the fire steps. Smaller dogs can be carried, while larger dogs may benefit from wearing shoes.
Starting and ending point:
U28 towards Rumburk from Bad Schandau National Park Station - Porschdorf stop or Porschdorf parking lot
