Hiking

Slap Sopot on Vrapčanski potok is Medvednica’s highest waterfall, cascading 9 meters (30ft) from top to bottom. Trail 4 takes you from Gornje Vrapče and up onto Medvednica’s slopes to discover this beautiful cascade.

The entire trail is through forest and it can be muddy underfoot, so wear decent hiking footwear. Its length means it’s not ideally suited to very young children but should be fine for older, burgeoning little hikers.

To reach the trail, take the 125 bus from Črnomerec bus terminal to Gornje Vrapče and alight at the penultimate stop. After crossing the Družinec stream, you’re greeted by the lovely sight of Slap Ferendol. This pretty little cascade is just a taste of what awaits further up the trail.

The route turns sharply at the Dragulinec rest area and continues to ascend gradually through the trees. You’ll reach a highpoint by the medieval quarry of the Talijan caves, before descending to join the forest road that shadows the course of the Vrapčak stream.

When you arrive at Slap Sopot, leave the trail temporarily and walk along the raised walkway, before returning to the trail and continuing uphill to where it ends, joining Trail 8. This trail gives you the option of visiting the summit of Vrh Pšeničnak, at 572 metres (1,877 ft).

Ferendol Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

While not as renowned as Slap Sopot, found further up the mountain, Slap Ferendol is a beautiful sight. This pretty little cascade is found towards the start of Medvednica's Trail 4, which takes the hiker from Gornje Vrapče up to Slap Sopot and beyond towards the 572-metre (1,877 ft) peak of Vrh Pšeničnak.

Dragulinec rest area

Highlight • Rest Area

This pretty little rest area is just a little way west from the lovely Slap Ferendol cascade. It makes for a lovely stop on the way up Medvednica's Trail 4, which ascends towards Slap Sopot, the tallest waterfall on the mountain.

Sopot Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The "Sopot" waterfall, 9 m high, is the largest waterfall on Medvednica. It is located on Vrapčanski potok (Vrapčak stream) and the hiking trail 4 leads to it from Gornji Vrapče. On the stone on one side of the wooden bridge is checkpoint 7 of the Vrapčanski bypass.
