Today Randers was the primary destination to go to the rainforest zoo there (we have visited it several times with children) - but why directly when you can cycle around Randers Fjord first? We started near Auning, where we went directly to a railway cycle path - unfortunately I had forgotten the lock and was allowed to return to the start, what's 8km more? Then we continued north to the fjord ferry in Udbyhoj on quiet farm roads next to huge fields and wide landscapes. After crossing the ferry, we walked along quiet roads and farm tracks along the fjord, only getting a glimpse of it. There is a lot of area and therefore no opportunities to "stop off" until you are in Randers - but all the more landscape and peace! It went through Randers quite quickly on bike paths next to the road, but the route was bike-friendly (if it hadn't been for the construction sites). Then we reached our primary goal and visited the zoo. After the visit we still had to go back and had to get out of the city again, always on bike paths but along main roads. On the way we passed the Elvis Museum - maybe worth a visit?! Once Randers was behind us, it was back on quiet side roads through the countryside, but it wasn't as nice to drive as on the other side of the fjord. Basically a nice tour, but there are also nicer cyclist areas in Denmark and the primary goal was the rainforest zoo anyway!
