Mariager Route (town hiking trail)

This tour takes you once around the town of Mariager with its nature-rich landscapes and historical highlights. You start at Mariager train station, from where you walk to the harbor. Along the beautiful fjord coast, you head into the forest area of Vesterskov. From here, the route first leads you slightly uphill and then along the outskirts of the town. In the Munkholmanlægget park, the Rosenhaven with 400 different rose species finally awaits you.

Past ponds, a fountain, and a charming pavilion, you head back out into the cultural landscape outside the town gates. You reach the highest point at Hohøj, Scandinavia's largest Bronze Age burial mound. After visiting the museum there and enjoying the view, you follow the tour to Alstrup Krat. Huge conifers tower into the sky here – this area was formed during the Ice Age by the erosion of meltwater. Finally, you head back to the fjord and into the romantic old town of Mariager with its pretty half-timbered houses.
