Castles and feasting: Well, if those aren't the perfect ingredients for a hiking trip to the Nuremberg region. The icing on the cake is the open Franconian landscape, which gives you beautiful views along the way.
It starts in Oedenberg, where a castle inn tempts you to stop off immediately after the first few steps. If you want to fortify yourself for the ten kilometers that lie ahead, this is just the thing. Otherwise, you can also visit it at the end of your hike, because you're doing a loop. So first continue across the picturesque fields, past Tauchersreuth to Beerbach, where it's worth taking a look at the church.
Then turn east and hike to Neunhof. There are three castles to admire here. The Welser Castle is right on your way, as is the Wiethaler brewery inn. You're about halfway through your hike here - a good time to stop off. Now we head south, where in the next town of Nuschelberg, Franconian specialties are served in the Hallerschlösschen between historic walls. The last part of the route leads via Günthersbühl back to Oedenberg.

Today we headed towards Günthersbühl via Oedenberg and Tauchersreuth and Nuschelberg! This time it was a very "culinary" hike with a stop at Oedenberg Castle and the Wiethaler Brewery - both absolutely worth a visit. The trail was very easy to hike and is actually super easy to do.
A very nice round - also suitable in winter - lots of open spaces with good sun - some very nice places to stop for refreshments at Oedenberg Castle, Wiethaler and Nuschelberg
Today I chose the west loop of Ödenberg. This is also a hike from the Nuremberg region in conjunction with the VGN. There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments and a few castles. You always have a great panoramic view.
The first hike this year with the hiking group starts at the castle in Odenberg. In wonderful hiking weather, the tour takes us to Tauchersreuth, past the water tower to Beerbach; a detour to the St. Egidien church is worthwhile. We continue with great views and many paths to Neunhof, past the Wiethler brewery towards Nuschelberg; we stopped off at the Hallerschlösschen and had a good meal. Uphill to Güntersbühl and back to Odenberg, an all-round successful hike.
The start and finish is the parking lot at Gasthof Schloss Oedenberg. There are also two electric charging stations here. You can stop for refreshments on our circular hike at the Brauereigasthof Wiethaler in Neunhof. The Hallerschlösschen in Nuschelberg is also on the way. Opening hours are Friday-Sunday. At the end of this beautiful and easy tour, we ate in the beer garden at Gasthof Schloss Oedenberg. Whether it was lunch or cake, everything was delicious. 🌸
The first tour this year with our hiking group takes us on a large circuit through the villages of Oedenberg, Tauchersreuth (beautiful view from the former ski lift down to Eschenau), Beerbach (beautiful old fortified church), Neunhof, Nuschelberg, and Günthersbühl. Castles AND inns everywhere - so something for everyone!
We chose this route after the dreary, gray weather because it's mostly sunny, although the forest path has its charms too. You pass through several villages with excellent restaurants, some of which are housed in very old buildings.
The second part of the tour, the so-called Westschlaufe (western loop), starts in the already familiar Neunhof and leads back to Nuschelberg. If you do both routes together, you could save yourself this section of the path. From Nuschelberg, a beautiful path leads downhill through the forest, past a small pond and some narrow streams, and back uphill to Güntersbühl with some interesting and striking buildings, as well as a small viewpoint. It continues to Oedenberg with its small castle, whose history dates back to the 12th century and today houses a restaurant. Through fields and meadows, the path continues to Tauchersreuth. Shortly after the village, there are wonderful views extending to the foothills of Franconian Switzerland. The pretty little church was also visible from above, towards which you are now heading. St. Egidien was built near a medieval healing spring and has stood there for over 500 years. A little later, Neunhof is reached again, and the second part of the tour ends. A pretty area with all sorts to discover. However, the two loops could also be done in one go without any problems, which would also reduce the proportion of roads a bit.
