On this mountain hike, you'll head from the Jamnigalm up to the Hagener Hut. There, you can spend the night – as we recommend – or at least take a long break. The view at 2,446 meters is absolutely impressive. A view like that is something you'll earn, so you'll start directly with the climb up to the hut.
Initially moderate, the path becomes increasingly steep. You'll hike in the footsteps of the Romans for a while and continue climbing to the Tauern Cross – a memorial, not a summit cross. So, you still have a few meters of elevation to climb before you reach the Hagener Hut. Time for a break – shorter or longer.
Then you'll return along the familiar path. This way, you'll once again enjoy the beautiful landscape, this time from a different perspective. As beautiful as the view is, you'll need to be sure-footed, especially at higher altitudes. So, it's best to stop for a photo.

The Romans crossed the main Alpine ridge here over 2,000 years ago.
The Tauerntal goes uphill on a good mountain road to the parking lot at an altitude of 1,680 m. After a few minutes you reach the Jamnigalm, from where you can enjoy an indescribable view of the mighty valley basin with the dominant Geißelkopf (2,974 m).
We continue on the wide hiking trail quite leisurely uphill, past an enchanted landslide forest along the “Alte Römerstraße” past the Tauern Cross to the Tauernhaus. You will soon see the proud Hagener Hut at the top of the pass, the worthwhile destination of this wonderful mountain hike.
