The mountains above Daxi are popular with outdoor enthusiasts – and on this hike, you'll understand why. This diverse tour offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, the northwest coast of Taiwan, and the turtle-shaped island off Yilan. There's also a good chance you'll see grazing water buffalo.
From the train station in Daxi, the hike climbs steeply: via stairs through the forest up to expansive grasslands. The view at the top is magnificent – especially when the silver grass blooms between October and January. You'll hike along an old trail dating back to the time when Taiwan was still a Japanese colony.
The trail leads you through stunning scenery, past numerous viewpoints – some with shelters for a rest. Finally, you'll hike back down to the coast. The tour ends at the train station in Fulong. If you have time, you can stop for a swim at the beach.
