Protected alpine landscape, ancient alpine pastures, and a view across the national border: The full-day tour to the Klammljoch on the South Tyrolean border promises relaxation, tranquility, and mountain biking bliss in the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The tour starts in St. Jakob in Defereggen at the middle school or at the town hall if you arrive by public transport. On natural and occasionally paved roads, you'll cycle through the largest contiguous Swiss stone pine forest in the Eastern Alps and, after several steep climbs, enjoy the magnificent viewpoints and sights along the way.
Once you've left the trees behind you, the next highlight soon follows: the Jagdhausalm, a listed mountain pasture, one of the oldest alpine pastures in Austria. From there, the Klammljoch on the Italian border is not far away. And with the Arventalalm, a beautiful, secluded snack station lies along the way.

Instead of walking, we cycled from our accommodation Gasthof Edelweiß, which by the way is really awesome, up to the Klammlsee. After just a few meters, we crossed the Schwarzach bridge at the end of the town, always following the signposted forest paths to the Erlsbach Patsch car park. From there it goes on well-developed forest paths along the …

It couldn't be more kitsch: the entire valley is blooming in all colors, the sun is shining, and there are very few people around.
