Mountain biking

A full-day adventure that includes significant elevation gain, crossing the language barrier, and, of course, plenty of pure downhill mountain biking fun: The B15 circular tour, with its approximately 70 kilometers, leads over two well-known Alpine passes and through the idyllic mountain scenery on the border between the cantons of Bern and Vaud.

You start your circular tour early in the morning in Gstaad with a long flat stretch along the Sarine River. Shortly after Château-d'Oex, your muscles will be warm and ready for the first tough climb of the tour. On the Alpine Bike 1 route, you'll battle your way steeply up to Lac de l'Hongrin and on to the Col des Mosses. The varied ups and downs continue across meadows, through forests, and occasionally on singletrack to the second well-known pass of the day, the Col du Pillon. Once you've reached the highest point of the day, you can look forward to a good 20 kilometers of descent back to Gstaad.

Lake Hongrin

Highlight • Lake

Lac de l’Hongrin is located in the canton of Vaud in the communes of Château-d’Oex and Ormont-Dessous. The water is processed in the Veytaux power station and then flows into Lake Geneva. In this way, the catchment area of the Hongrin, which drains to the Rhine, is partly fed to the Rhone via the European main watershed.

The area around Lac de l'Hongrin is a military firing range, so that on weekdays access is often restricted or not possible at all.

Meadow trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A large part of the Hongrin area is used as a military training ground, so signs of this can be seen everywhere, such as old tanks. When planning a tour in this area, please be aware of the current military usage times.

Col des Mosses

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The north ramp is rather tame with a good 500 meters in altitude, the climb from the canton of Vaud demands considerably more with almost 1,000 meters to be overcome. Both sides are very scenic, the road is excellent throughout, the maximum gradient hardly exceeds the 10% mark.

Lake Retaud

Highlight • Lake

A small lake with a continuous shoreline, it's ideal for families and a lovely break during a bike tour or hike. Swimming is also possible, and there's a charming, newly renovated chalet-style restaurant right next door. Magnificent views of the Diablerets massif.
