The HeimatSpur "Water and Rock Trail" is a roughly 14km circular tour in the Volcanic Eifel. Our starting point was the small village of Üdersdorf near Daun. The tour offers repeated, magnificent views of the Eifel 🌿 and, in the middle section, leads past the striking basalt formation of the Löhley. 🪨 For the final third of the tour, the Lieser River accompanied us – partly via the wonderful Lieserpfad (Lieser Path).💧 Shortly before the end of the tour, another geological highlight awaits: the Üdersdorf Lava Quarry. Here, the ancient lava flows 🌋 and the different rock layers are particularly visible – a fascinating insight into the Eifel's volcanic past. We give this tour full marks!
This path is highly recommended, I was very surprised, great landscapes, I will definitely hike again 🤩🥾
Start in Üdersdorf opposite the church. There was plenty of parking. I changed places again. That's why the back and forth when recording. The water and rock path is a great hike through the fields, past flowering meadows, through cool forests with large rocks (rocks of the Löhley), past babbling brooks. It always goes up and down and there are great views. You also get sweaty. I come through 3 villages (Üdersdorf, Weiersbach and Trittscheid), all of which are nice to look at. I didn't visit the Aarley lookout tower, it said it was blocked on the internet. Nature itself is so beautiful that I didn't need to climb a tower. Today I was once again delighted by a brown hare, a slow worm and a snake were sunbathing along the way. Birds were singing and butterflies were everywhere. As always on these hikes, nature is in the foreground and there are many side scenes. At the Sauerbrunnen on the Lieser there was a rest and delicious water. I am always delighted by what the Eifel has to offer. That's why I'll do one home track tour after the other if possible. This tour with water, rocks, volcanic past is varied and well signposted.
A great route through the Volcanic Eifel with first-class signage. The path is very varied through flowering meadows and beech forests. A highlight here is definitely the Troll Forest with the lava rocks covered in moss. The view over the Eifel is impressive in clear weather.
Promising title of today's hiking recommendation "Water & Rocks Trail"... "what the fuck" slipped out of my better half during the first 1.5 hours. It spoke from my heart, as I was really struggling with the gravel, replaced by asphalt. But it could have been worse... with a rain cape, for example. When the observation tower was dismantled and waiting for cheap steel to rebuild it, the tour was finally over. Nevertheless, the climb to the Löhley is impressive and worth a trip and the view from the Aarley is absolutely worth seeing, even without the tower.
A very, very nice tour for an afternoon. A varied route with sections through the forest and past fields, rivers, and quarries. We didn't find any places to stop for refreshments. There is a spring with very mineralized drinking water (although it takes some getting used to). I highly recommend this tour. Including breaks, we were on the trail for about 4.5 hours. Easy tour with no extreme climbs (at most, one very short section).
The round was very varied and the rock path seems to be newly laid out and deviates from the path marked on komoot, but is easy to find and marked.
