Woerth - a charming little town in northern Alsace, but one with a fair amount of German-French history. One of the first and also one of the bloodiest battles of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 took place here. The Museum of the Battle of 6 August 1870 (Musée de la Bataille du 6 août 1870) and a circular path through the former battlefield above the town commemorate this. Monuments from the German period, explanations that do not reflect a one-sided historical view, but do justice to the positions of both protagonists, Napoleon III and Bismarck. An educational trail that a school class has designed with great care and expertise. Something different - not just a hike. Highly recommended for anyone interested in how Germany came into the form we have today and the changing relationships it has experienced with France!
