This route was planned by komoot.
The trail offers a varied surface. Approximately 75% is asphalt, with the remaining 25% consisting of gravel roads. You'll encounter separated cycle paths, cycle lanes, and some sections with mixed traffic. While mostly paved, be prepared for unpaved segments, especially if you explore variations.
The route provides diverse scenery, including beautiful lake-side landscapes, open fields, forests, and charming villages. You'll pass by the Runn Runt Cycle Path itself, the impressive Liljesund Bridge, and the popular Torsångscafé. Other notable points include Vika Kyrka with its 16th-century murals, the historical Ornässtugan, and Stabergs Bergsmansgård with its baroque garden.
While specific parking locations aren't detailed, the trail is easily accessible from both Falun and Borlänge. As it's a popular touring route, you can typically find parking in these towns or at various points along the loop, especially near popular amenities or attractions.
The trail is best enjoyed from spring through autumn. During these seasons, the weather is generally pleasant for cycling, and all amenities like cafes and bathing spots are typically open. The diverse scenery, including lake views and forests, is particularly beautiful during these months.
The trail is generally suitable for cycling with dogs, provided they are well-behaved and kept on a leash, especially in populated areas or near wildlife. Always ensure your dog has access to water and is comfortable with the distance and mixed terrain.
No, you do not need a permit or have to pay an entrance fee to cycle the Runn Runt Cycle Trail. It is a publicly accessible route.

Yes, the route is part of the official 'Runn runt' trail (covering 99% of it) and also passes through sections of 'Runnleden' (27%) and 'Sverigeleden' (16%). You might also briefly encounter 'Dalkarlsvägen etapp 4' and 'Cykelstråk i Falun'.
Yes, the Runn Runt Cycle Trail is designed as a circular route around Lake Runn, making it convenient for a day trip without needing to retrace your steps. The komoot tour provided starts and ends in Falun.
Generally, yes. The trail is considered easy to moderate, with much of it being relatively flat and paved. Its clear signage and road safety certification make it a reliable choice. However, be aware of a few steeper hills, particularly around Vikasjön, and some sections with mixed traffic. The length can also be adjusted for shorter family outings.
While largely easy to moderate, the trail does feature a few steeper hills that might require good fitness, especially around Vikasjön and the stretch between Folkarbyn, Dalvik, and Tronsjö. If you opt for unpaved variations, you might need to push your bike on certain segments. The total elevation gain is around 310 meters over 61.3 km.
Today we took a not-so-easy clockwise bike ride from Falun around Lake Runn (Runn Runt). It's steep ups and downs, and our bikes were going fast up to 46 km. On the tour, we encountered all kinds of surfaces, from great to rideable 😀 to very coarse gravel 🤔. Shortly after Vika Strand, we encountered some pretty rough terrain at a scrapyard. But our small balloon tires held up, and we returned unscathed. While cycling around Lake Runn, we would have liked to have seen more of Lake Runn in the Borlänge municipality. After about 50 km, we stopped for a break at a café on a farm in Osnås. The cappuccino there was delicious 😋.
