The sun was beckoning, and since a family celebration on Sunday also threatened to leave us with a lot of sedentary time, we quickly headed out into nature on Saturday. The Federlohmühlen North Trail, which we had briefly glimpsed on a partial stage a long time ago, was covered in delicate spring green and very lonely. There was no one else there except us. The northern trails don't always keep their word, as they are often wider forest and meadow paths. However, there are also narrow paths here and there. The paths and trails lead us through a rural idyll. We see meadows, streams, ponds, and plenty of forest on our hike. And the occasional animal. We enjoyed it. A lovely little break. Photos by Wanderuli and me 😉
In this variant we start at the starting point S2 and hike the path counterclockwise.
A small section of forest is extremely overgrown with small fir trees. A small detour is necessary.
After finishing my city trip in Hildesheim this morning, I took a break halfway through my walk and set off on another northern trail. This trail can largely be described in one word: nature. A magnificent landscape, and three-quarters of the way through, I was surprised by the old mill that gave the northern trail its name.
The beautiful farming village of Riekenbostel is the start and finish point of our tour. The north path Federlohmühlen leads through beautiful, quiet forest areas and through fields to the former Mühlenhof Federlohmühlen. The old former water mill still stands here and other buildings can still be found. We continue along some ponds and the Federlohmühlenbach, which has been cut into the landscape. We discover the remains of another, former oil mill. A real lost place that has been reclaimed by nature. Our path continues through forests. The forest areas seem to be very rich in game. We not only see this in the high seats that can be found everywhere. A couple of times we can even see some pieces of fallow deer. We also notice that autumn is slowly but surely approaching. The leaves are already starting to turn brightly and the first edible mushrooms are peeking out of the forest floor. Finally we get back to our starting point. We give this tour ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars. On my website https://www.tberg.de there is even a separate article about the north paths in the district of Rotenburg: https://www.tberg.de/nordpfade-willkommen-im-flachwanderland/
Interesting highlights of this tour are of course the Federlohmühlen water mill, the path along the ponds, the rustic Mühlenbach bridge and the hidden ruins of an oil mill. The town of Riekenbostel is also quite beautiful. Otherwise it is mainly on wide forest paths through coniferous forest, but we enjoy the peace and quiet here, no traffic noise, very pleasant.
I was in the area. The weather: excellent. The forest: very big and deep. I didn't have the right camera for the animals I saw today. For everything else, yes. 14 km without people, but with crane call and goose pull. A wonderful way. I met Buddy, once again for a long time, in the spring lair at the mill. The melodious name belongs to a dog that lives on the Mühlenhof. Buddy made it into the phone book of my smartphone. Although it is actually people who choose their dogs, Buddy likes to turn the tables. He chooses people he wants to accompany a piece, which he then creates lively and very relational. Years ago he walked through the forest with me for an hour. At some point I thought about it and dialed the cell phone number that is on his collar. My master came by bike and was really angry, gave me the "good" advice to give his dog a good kick in the butt if that happens again. I replied that he doesn't really deserve this great dog. In the meantime this peculiar person has placed signs around the trouble, on which an "instruction manual" for Buddy is deposited. I like the dog. And at the next opportunity I'll just take it with me. He loves sausage rolls, just like me, what more do you need for now ... Buddy stayed in his sunspot today. But there are always opportunities
A hike from the beautiful farming village of Riekenbostel through magnificent and multifaceted forests to the idyllic mill of the picturesquely situated Federlohmühlen - perfect for relaxing and recharging your batteries!
