And another tick on the list. North path 20 of 24 led me to Scheeßel. The course of the route makes me a little suspicious in advance, especially since you also walk back the first few kilometers at the end. Ultimately, however, this part of the route is actually the most attractive and so you can easily double it. The part through the Vareler Heide is also very beautiful and is good for walking. It is quite short for hiking. The two stretches along the country roads are terrible, as there is heavy traffic even in the evening hours. The Meyerhof - where you start - and the Heimathaus are impressive properties and definitely worth a visit. Overall, again a route that you can do and offers some beautiful sections. However, you shouldn't make a long journey to get here. So there are four left.
A beautiful and varied route. Very good to 🥾
Summer is over, finally we're out and about with the hiking group again. From Meyerhof Scheeßel across the Beeke along the Wümme: the first 2 km are a great introduction to this northern path. The next section to the Vareler Heide: a plough overgrown with trees #2 and #3 and the Ruhewald characterize this section. The Vareler Heide, a gem in the Scheeßel area, is experienced with surprise and amazement. Some explanations of the cultural landscape #10 #14 "Heide" are met with approval. Art and culture in a great combination, slightly tinged with German, by the way #11 #12. Our hike ends in Scheeßel in the café, coffee and cake is taken care of by a birthday child among us and conversations about the hike, further planning and reflection on our general political situation end our very nice hiking afternoon.
We hiked in Scheeßel today in glorious, warm, sunny weather. The Meyerhof is a lovely starting point; it boasts many well-maintained and preserved farm buildings. It's a varied hike through Scheeßel along the Wümme River, through secluded forests, and across delightful heathland. There are plenty of opportunities to rest, whether on one of the many benches or in a shelter. At the end of the tour, we visited the Meyerhof's exhibitions on blue printing and looms; it was very educational.
We were out and about in Lower Saxony today in wonderful external conditions. The northern paths are really well signposted and the whole hike reminded me of the Heidschnuckenweg trail hike. Hiking in the heath is always an experience.
And another northern path, the 13th for me! Beautiful route with a varied landscape with lots of benches and shelters. https://www.nordwaerts.de/aktiv-entspannt/tour/nordpfad-wuemme-und-vareler-heide-100258934/
Hiking in Northern German - you can experience the region in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) between Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen on 24 northern trails. Since I was in my home country, I explored the North Path Wümme and Vareler Heide today. It started at the local history museum and off we went along the Wümme and through the open Feldmark to Griemshoop and into the Lauenbrücker forest, where there were quite a lot of mosquitoes (gnakens). Through the Vareler Heide, which is not yet in bloom, we passed the Schnuckenstand and back along the Wümme. The path actually starts at Meyerhof, where today was museum day. Since I grew up here, I knew everything - the forest paths, on which I used to jog, the Wümme, on which we used to paddle with our inflatable boats, the Schützenhof, where our student pub Marga used to be and later the JWD. Many beautiful memories on lonely paths.
The varied trail starts in Scheeßel at the Meyerhof. Since 2020, there has been a permanent blue printing exhibition on the site, which the local history association has put together. Opening times: https://www.heimatmuseum-scheessel.de/museum/meyerhof Blue printing is an old dyeing craft that has also been recognized as a "UNESCO - Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" since the end of 2018. Along the high bank of the Wümme, the trail goes through fields to the Vareler Heide. Unfortunately, two sections lead along a busy country road. But the trail is worth it.
