After a hearty snack 🥪🍎 I set off at 1:30 p.m. from the Hohenmoor starting point. 🚶♂️ The weather was good 🌤️, and by 4:15 p.m. I had conquered my 24th and final northern path. 🏆🌲💪 😄😄😄
Great to walk. And for once there are no pig farms nearby 😉
Quiet corners between Elm and Mulsum Fields and meadows, forests and moors, villages and isolated farms, an impressive windmill, and a lovingly designed moorland refuge. The gently rolling and tranquil Geest landscape offers pure relaxation. Source: https://www.nordwaerts.de/aktiv-entspannt/tour/nordpfad-hinterholz-und-hohenmoor-100258940/
A beautiful route with a wide variety of terrain, from tall grass to soft sand. The highlight is the mill at the beginning, and the moorland refuge with its peat-picking trail is also not to be underestimated. Otherwise, you'll almost always see pure nature, with only a few farms along the way through forest and fields.
Start from the hiking car park at the windmill in Elm / Bremervörde, Eddelhoff 33A. The access path leads over 700m to the start of the actual tour
On the north trail Hinterholz and Hohenmoor you have a lot of peace and quiet. It is not for nothing that this northern path is subtitled "Quiet corners between Elm and Mulsum". Early in the morning it was announced that it would also be foggy during the day. A farsighted tour was out of the question. As recommended, we start our tour at the Henriette windmill. From the Nordpfad car park it is around 700 meters through the village of Elm. The tour has about 1/3 asphalt road share. Regrettable, but not to be changed. Luckily, we unintentionally took the wrong direction of the circular hike. So the asphalt road through the Elmer Hinterholz was only at the end of our tour. So we were able to hike through the forest in a good mood and in good spirits on natural paths. The fog and the light conjured up a special atmosphere in nature. And it was really quiet - we hardly met anyone on the tour. We cross the Oste-Schwinge Canal, walk along the Mulsumer Moor and finally come to the Hohenmoor. There is a bog shelter here and a small bog nature trail has been laid out. The area is ideal for a short rest. We continue walking along the Hohenmoor. The channel has cut deep into the body of the bog here and we can look deep into the profile of the bog. What is fascinating is that the visible deepest layers were already formed at the time of the Egyptian pyramids. It continues between fields and meadows. The fog, which has meanwhile become somewhat lighter, gives a view of the landscape. Again through the Elmer Hinterholz we get back to the windmill. Conclusion of the tour: you can walk the north path, but you don't have to. Unless you collect the northern paths in the hiking booklet. Highlights of the tour: - Windmill Henriette - Elmer Hinterholz - Hohenmoor moor shelter with moor path
Very harmonious route with a variety of surfaces and very good signage. The North Path doesn't have a real highlight. But that doesn't matter, you can walk it nicely as it is.
The long straights are also typical of this northern path in the undulating geest landscape near Bremervörde. The start was in Elm at S1, the Henriette windmill. Due to the construction site 🚧 in Elm, the journey from the direction of BRV is currently only possible via side roads. The Dutch gallery windmill, built in Elm in 1871 (it stood in Hamburg for the 100 years before that), is normally located away from the NP, but the detour there or the 700m access path is worthwhile. Highlights for us were the sections through the Elmer Hinterholz, the path along the Oste-Schwinge canal, the moor protection hut, whose half-timbering is filled with peat sods, and the peat cutting path behind the hut. Another worthwhile northern path through meadows, fields, forest and moor to enjoy peace and nature, but in comparison to other NPs it mostly runs on heavily consolidated paths.
