June 18, 2023, Isenthal Tour mit Karl

The last part up to the Alpbeizli Oberalp is extremely steep and difficult to drive. Only recommended for fit bikers or eBikes. I pushed for 30 minutes, but it's worth a visit 😊

Lonely, lonelier, Isenthal - beautiful, more beautiful, Isenthal.

What is worth waiting for. A year ago I planned this tour. Yes, retirement can be stressful at times. With so many temptations and obligations, there are simply not enough days off. 😏 Great tour for descendants. Tips: late October is too late, too much shade. It's a bit gravelly at the top, but manageable for the experienced. The single trails along the stream are marked with a small no-driving sign.

The thirst for adventure was great and I wanted to drive something that wasn't so well known. So I was drawn to Urnerland, the start was right after the Seelisberg tunnel in Seedorf. The road to Isenthal was on the sunny side in the morning and so the view and the autumnal impressions on the way were fantastic! The Isenthalbach rushed deep in the gorge and the higher the road screwed up, the shadier and frostier it got. The way led to the end of the valley, at times quite steep and my screeching rear brake was also jammed At the Gossalp, pushing back the brake pistons was the order of the day, making it easier to hitchhike up again. Shortly afterwards, the first short trail started before the last steep climb over two Alps to the Sassigrat began on the other side of the valley. This meant sometimes pushing and finally carrying! The path was quite worn, often so narrow that there was not enough space for man and bike together. The mountain had worked and in places the path had slipped away and carefully step by step! Once on the ridge, the view was overwhelming. Straight ahead to the mighty Uri Rotstock and on the coming side to the Oberbauenstock, Engelberger Rotstock and all the many other floors ... Well, with a gradient of up to 40%, very narrow hairpin bends and coarse rock it was clear that the back of the ridge was initially impassable ... but that changed at some point and the trail fun finally began above the Musenalp !! It was tough, but beautiful and impressive with all the rugged, rocky mountains! (From the Grosstal to the Kleintal)

After the village of Isenthal, follow the mountain road and drive up the Grosstal. Cross the valley side via a short single trail at the end of the valley and drive to the Biwaldalp. This is where the first pushing passages begin and after the alp you are definitely done with driving. Shouldering the bike, you reach the ridge and the Uri Rotstock is directly in view. Beautiful and powerful! The descent to Musenalp is difficult at first (I run the first hairpin bends: too steep, too narrow) and becomes more and more fluid. Really cool from the Musenalp! The last section, just before the lake, is quite demanding again!!

eBike Tour: 🚴Isenthaler Tour 🚴 My hardest tour with the trekking bike starts in Seedorf. From there I cycle along Lake Uri to Isleten. Now the first steep climb begins on the breathtaking Isenthalerstrasse with a view over Lake Uri! In Isenthal I treat myself to a coffee break. Freshly strengthened, I first tackle the Kleintal. Here it is already very steep along the Chlitalerbach to the very back of Alp Neihüttli at 1200m! So that was the first part! It goes down at over 70 km/h to Isenthal village. Now comes the more demanding part into the Grosstal. The Isentalerbach first goes up slowly to the St. Jakob-Gitschenen cable car. Past Portrüteli to Stäfeli there are still gradients of up to 15%. Now it gets tough, with gradients of over 30% in some places and gravel paths up to the Wilderbutzenstafel at 1700m. I took a wrong turn there and gained even more altitude. So I went back to the Alpstafel where I walked the hiking trail, pushing my bike for about 600m and partly over snow to the Biwaldalp! When I got there, in front of the closed Biwald alpine farm, I met a mountain hiker with entertaining conversation! The height had been reached at Biwald and now it was time to descend on a very steep alpine access path, initially partially covered with remaining snow and then through a beautiful primeval forest! In the forest I met another alpine farmer who was setting up at Hagpösten and pointed out to me that further down the path a fir tree had fallen over the path from the storm and that it would be precarious to drive through. And there was actually a fallen fir tree there, so I couldn't continue riding for the time being! After breaking off numerous branches, I managed to push the bike underneath! (It was almost impossible to get around it. Made it and continued down to St. Jakob then along the Isentalerbach to Isenthal with a detour to the Unter Bärchi. Great view of Lake Uri and the Urnerland! Back to Isenthal village and down to Isleten, another detour to Bauen with an ice cream stop at the boat station and along the lake to the starting point in Seedorf! That was probably the most challenging bike tour with the touring bike with a steepness of over 30% gradient and height differences as well as the strain on the bike on this tour! But made it! https://youtu.be/_Ik3jGPa3gg?si=6R0dypkBXcgiCZJQ
