Skjern Bathing Harbour

Highlight • Lake

The Skjern bathing harbour is located in the remains of the main course of the Skjern Å river and is ideal for canoe and kayak enthusiasts, as it resembles a small lake without counter-current, but offers good access to the river.
Until 1850, the bathing harbour was very close to Skjern and was used as a harbour from which one could travel down the river.
Parts of medieval Skjern can still be recognised in the form of remains of an old wooden bridge, which was discovered as part of the nature restoration project. Northeast of the bathing harbour, there are also some exposed stone surfaces of the Kongevejsbroen, which was located here from the mid-16th century until 1845. Near the bathing harbour lies Kong Hans’ Bro and a small exhibition on-site provides information about the many crossings and bridges that have been built here since the Middle Ages. Tables, benches, and a barbecue area have also been set up here, making the bathing harbour a popular excursion destination in this area.
You can reach the Skjern bathing harbour via Petersmindevej.

The North pumping station is a remainder of Denmark's largest drainage project. A natural riverbed and its adjacent wetlands were restored by a renaturation project (2003). the renaturation clearly explained. From the roof of the pumping station you have a great view over the area.
