Hiking
Between Lake Constance and the Bregenzer Ache river lies a tranquil natural paradise that you can explore on foot directly from the city: the Mehrerau lakeshore.
Info/Facts: This leisurely hike is easily accessible by public transport and offers an impressive nature experience right on Lake Constance. You start at the train station in Bregenz and walk along the lake promenade towards Mehrerau. A detour to the viewing platform is worthwhile for a beautiful view of the lake. After the Wocherhafen kiosk, the path leads you into the species-rich floodplain forest. Around the small pond, you'll discover beaver tracks and immerse yourself in the diverse birdlife – a concert of chirping, rustling, and calling.
The area between the Bregenzer Ache and Lake Constance is a nature reserve and a biodiversity hotspot. Here, you'll encounter bodies of water, reed beds, and wetlands – important habitats for waterfowl and spawning grounds for numerous fish species. From April to May, you can even discover one of Vorarlberg's rarest plants: the Lake Constance forget-me-not. It blooms in bright blue on the gravel areas along the shore – small but beautiful.
Protection and preservation: Despite many visitors, the Mehrerau lakeshore remains a valuable natural area. If you are considerate, you can enjoy the landscape without disturbing it. Please be careful not to light campfires outside of designated areas – they endanger the sensitive shoreline vegetation.
Tip for an experience: A visit to the Mehrerau lakeshore can be wonderfully combined with a walk or hike along the shores of Lake Constance. It's especially worthwhile in spring and summer: the flora blooms and many bird species appear. With binoculars, you can observe animals from a safe distance. It's best to stay on the marked trails and enjoy the peace and quiet – this will make your nature experience particularly memorable.

This leisurely hike is very easy to reach by public transport and offers a great nature experience on Lake Constance. We start at the train station in Bregenz and walk along the lake promenade in the direction of Mehrerau. A detour to the viewing platform on Lake Constance is worthwhile for a beautiful view. After the Wocherhafen kiosk, the path leads us into the species-rich floodplain forest. Around the small pond we find traces of the beaver and immerse ourselves in the singing world of the bird species. The diverse shades of green of the different tree species shine in the sunlight and the path leads us to the newly designed viewing platform on the Bregenzer Ache. From there the narrow path leads us through the floodplain forest back towards the kiosk. There are several places along the way to enjoy the beautiful nature for a few moments. At the kiosk you can fortify yourself with a little something and at the Wocherhafen bus stop we end this wonderful nature experience tour. This round is particularly impressive between mid-March and mid-June in the early morning.
