Hiking

The town of Saint-Hubert is located in the wooded Ardennes on a tributary of the Lomme and is the starting point of this two-day tour.

The first stage starts in Grupont, from where you follow the route over several hills with wonderful views of the Famenne until you reach the forest of Saint-Michel-Freyr. The route finally takes you through the forest to the stage destination of Saint-Hubert. The strikingly large Gothic basilica of St. Hubert with its baroque façade is worth seeing.

On the second day, the hike takes you along forest paths and through the charming village of Hatrival. Once you have left the village behind you, it is only eleven kilometers until you reach your destination of Poix-Saint-Hubert.

Basilica of Saint-Hubert

Highlight • Religious Site

The Basilica of Saint-Hubert is located in the center of the city and is not only an important place of pilgrimage, but also a protected cultural monument of Wallonia.

The foundation of the church dates back to the 7th century, but the current building is a structure that dates mainly from the 16th century. The basilica is dedicated to Saint Hubert of Liège, whose bones were transferred here in 825. However, these were lost after the dissolution of the abbey, so a cenotaph - a false grave - of Saint Hubert is located in the basilica.

When there are no services taking place, you can visit the basilica. Guided tours of the church building are also available on request.

Saint Ursmer Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The current village church dates from 1864 and is in neo-Gothic style. The choice of the patron saint of the church, Saint Ursmer, was very unusual.
