Nestled in the picturesque Bucks Lake Wilderness with its towering conifers, you will explore two shimmering lakes on this tour: Silver Lake and Gold Lake. The names of the two bodies of water indicate the region's long mining history. Before the area was declared wilderness, gold and silver were mined in numerous mines.
From the parking lot on Silver Lake Road, it is only a stone's throw to the shore of the lake of the same name. From here, you follow the Gold Lake Trail, which takes you up a few meters in altitude, first into fragrant forests, then into the barren mountain landscape. Surrounded by rocks, huckleberry bushes and the impressive Spanish Peak, you can take a well-deserved break at Gold Lake.
Enjoy the silence of the wilderness, which is only interrupted at this point by the babbling of Jacks Meadow Creek. The way back follows the same route, where you can take a breather again at Silver Lake.
