This route was planned by komoot.
An eventful fourth day began once again with an escape from the rain to the Buenavista del Norte region. However, due to a closure of the access road to the Teno lighthouse, the planned coastal hike in the sunshine was cancelled, and instead, we embarked on the windy and beautiful ascent to Teno via the Camino del Risco. Surefootedness and dryness were essential, so a thorough review of weather apps was in order... However, even the most experienced hiker is helpless when the rain goddess has chosen you as your travel companion and partner... 😃 The ascent began under a mix of sun and clouds, following a path reminiscent of an old watercourse, and the sound of rushing water could be heard in the distance. The 3.9 km trail, climbing to an altitude of approximately 700 meters, featured several narrow sections and switchbacks with steps close to the edge, where some might have wished for a railing, rope, or even a cable car... 😃 The sky repeatedly clouded over, and the wind, initially gusty but becoming increasingly stormy as we gained altitude, blew down the mountainside. As a reward, we were repeatedly treated to beautiful views of the gorge and the sea. Nevertheless, I became increasingly worried about the descent on this path in such windy conditions. There was no nearby descent, however, except for a roughly 15-18 km stretch of road via Teno and Buenavista del Norte... After conquering the steepest section, we reached a sheltered alpine meadow after 2.8 km, where, under a bright sun, we arrived in Scarlett's windblown boots. The meadow was lush with herbs, perfect for all the mountain goats. After a picnic with a handful of nuts, the sky suddenly darkened again. We only briefly enjoyed the "cloud nine" video view, as the fog turned into a drizzle. This also made the descent practically impossible due to its perceived danger... But who knows how needy we must have seemed... Suddenly, a friendly Estonian couple, who had also been enjoying a short stroll on the summit in the summery weather, offered us a ride down to the valley. We gratefully accepted and were soon back at our rental car. 😃 Since we hadn't exchanged names, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the Estonians once again for this generous gesture... 🤗
