Beautiful and interesting walk on marked hiking trails around the large Barranco above Araya. I actually wanted to make a detour to the summit of Pico Igonse. However, the path there was closed and despite GPS, no sensible path could be found. But overall, the walk was very beautiful with great views of the sea and towards Candelaria.
What a great walk! Here is the description: **Circular walk from Icoro via:** - Ermita de San Isidro (6.7 km) This walk, the last of 2024 in Tenerife, takes us through the beautiful Barranco Las Goteras in Araya. At a pleasant temperature of 27°C we enjoyed a challenging walk with a lot of climbing, covering approximately 630 meters in altitude. However, the effort was more than rewarded with countless breathtaking views along the way. We hope you find this walk inspiring! 🎒🏞️
The hike started in the village of Araya. There we went up a very steep road for about 1km, as the bus couldn't manage it. Then we went on a mostly narrow, stony path, with a bit of asphalt in between, steadily uphill, always above the Barranco Achacay. Unfortunately, the sun left us at some point and clouds moved up the gorge. On the other side of the gorge we went down again on a narrow path, and the last kilometer was of course steep again on the road. Overall, a nice hike.
Unfortunately the information is not correct: it was 10.3 km and 653 meters in altitude. According to the Garmin watch, we were on the road for 4 hours. A very nice and rather unknown tour. I would recommend sticks for the descent, as parts are steep and sandy/rubble. Take enough water with you as even the water point at the hiking car park has no water! Pleasant change between sun and shade.
Although it was partly cloudy at the beginning and end of the tour, we sweated a lot on the ascent. At the upper part of the Barranco the sky was blue and the views were great.
A very beautiful and varied circular hike in the hinterland of Candelaria with great views, great barrancos, beautiful pine forests and also a short foray through burnt pine forests where, fortunately, new, small shoots can be seen. The hiking trail is well marked, and prominent points have been paved on the descent. Overall, a diverse and interesting hike.
There are hikes that you're so glad you did and wouldn't want to miss...this one undoubtedly belongs to that category, at least that's how I see it, and after 3 weeks I set out again – today in the opposite direction and in perfect hiking weather...a top hike for me!
