This route was planned by komoot.
The route is recommended for those who like to hike for the sake of hiking. However, the long climb to the Steigenberger Hotel is VERY! stressful. Unfortunately, there is very little to see from the panorama because the viewpoints are almost completely overgrown. Sometimes with bushes, sometimes with trees. The terrain is sometimes very rough - so sturdy shoes are a must. By the way, the back entrance to the monastery was locked, so I walked around the entire wall. Partly very steep climbs. Not high, but it is advisable to hold on to the trees.
Thank you @Jessica for this wonderful tour and the wonderful weather!
In less than 8 km, this tour offers everything you'd expect from the 7 Mountains: everything, except for the effort. Huge cliffs, sunlight playing in the forest leaves, views and vistas, (easy) descents and ascents, Stenzelberg, Nonnenstromberg, and an incomparable Rhine panorama from the Petersberg – all this offers full 7 Mountains enjoyment, along with the opportunity to stop for refreshments three times (in addition to the Petersberg beer garden, at the Einkehrhaus and at Heisterbach Monastery). Thanks @Stefan for the template from February 23rd. Now, in tropical July, the shady route comes in very handy! While we're used to wide, basalt-gravel roads in many places in the 7 Mountains, this hike spoils you with many narrow forest paths, some with the usual inclusions of roots and basalt. A bit of challenge is necessary, otherwise it would just be a stroll. Here you'll find real hiking pleasure and plenty of peace and quiet (at least on Thursdays - the 7 Mountains are often crowded on weekends).
That was actually a really nice round, but only actually ... For people with a stroller or, like me, with an off-road walking aid, it was really a challenge. The ascent to the Petersberg is like a via ferrata on the last kilometer. Otherwise it was really nice and, above all, no mass migrations, despite the various refreshment stops along the way ...
On Christmas Day in nasty weather and on muddy paths. But there's not much going on. We recommend “Siebengebirge 13 hikes on the trail of volcanism” by Sven von Loga, tour 3 as a hiking guide.
A really great hike starting at the parking lot of the Heisterbach monastery, then to the quarry, then it went up to the Stenzelberg. Wonderful stone formations, really worth seeing !! Then at the Einkehrhaus Waldesruh on to the Nonnenstromberg and of course up to the Petersberg. Steep ascent but you are rewarded with a great view of the Drachenburg and the Drachenfels and with a view of the Rhine Valley. There we first had to wait for the thunderstorm. Then the descent to the monastery including a stop at the café. Before that, of course, a visit to the ruins and the 3 ponds ... very, very nice tour.
