This route was planned by komoot.
The approximately 7km circular hike begins at Calw's market square, where charming half-timbered houses usher in the historic ambiance. From there, the trail leads through the old town, past the birthplace of Hermann Hesse and the museum of the same name with its literary garden. It continues to St. Nicholas Chapel and the Long Tower, then to the Old Latin School, the Salt Box, and the Vischer Palace, home to the Calw City Museum. The route offers repeated, beautiful views—for example, from the panoramic wooden footbridge or the Cuckoo Rock. A highlight is the view from Meistersberg over Calw and the Nagold Valley. Rest areas such as the Caféhäusle invite you to take a leisurely break. On the return journey, you'll encounter Calw's industrial past: Villa Wagner, the grounds of the Calw Textiles Company, and a historic trading and residential building are all along the way. The Hermann Hesse Fountain marks the end of the hike. The tour is easily accessible even in moderate weather and is ideal for a day spent immersed in culture and nature.
Today we took public transport from Sulz 🚉 to Horb by train and then changed to the regional express train 🚆 towards Pforzheim. Calw is the birthplace of Hermann Hesse, and there are traces of him 👣 everywhere. We continued on the circular trail around Calw, uphill ↗️ through the forest, then downhill ↙️ and along a narrow path to the viewpoint overlooking Hirsau Monastery ⛪️. Then we returned to the very beautiful old town, where we stopped for a coffee at the Schönbuch Brewery 🍻 before spending some more time there until we had to catch our train 🚊.
Today we went back to Calw and, with our dogs, embarked on the tour "Around Calw - Monuments, Personalities, History, and Views." We headed in the opposite direction of the signs from the parking lot directly into the forest. Monuments, personalities, buildings, and technical achievements accompany us on this "Around Calw" trail. The signposted trail (clockwise only) leads directly through nature, past historic sites with magnificent views of the Hermann Hesse town. 👀"Eye-catching" moments you won't forget! The tour, with some climbs, leads up the 🌄high trails around Calw and over 🌳🌲forest paths. Sturdy footwear is therefore required. Learn about the history of Calw on 42 steles. The tour is designed so that it can be walked in its entirety, 1-42, or in individual sections, 1-26 and 26-42. The start and finish is always in Calw's city center. https://www.outdooractive.com/de/route/themenweg/nordschwarzwald/rund-um-calw-denkmaeler-persoenlichkeiten-geschichte-und-aussichten/30761958/ I'll definitely walk this 🥾trail again, but then following the ➡signposts.
