Trail Reviews

Manfred R.K.
July 7, 2023, CW-Stammheim - Simmonzheim 🙋‍♂️- 🚍🚍🚶‍♂️🌳Auf den Spuren der Hugenotten und Waldenser🌳🚶‍♂️🚍🚈🚈🚍

🌞Today again a destination hike, so in the morning we went "on time" with the 🚍Bus706 to Böblingen/ZOB and on with the 🚍Bus670 to CW-Stammheim. 🥾The stage from CW-Stammheim to Simmonzheim was hiked on the Huguenot and Waldenserweg. On the way home, the 🚍Bus670 was unfortunately 10 minutes late, so people in Weil der Stadt looked after the 🚈S60. Due to this delay, the following trains 🚈S60 and 🚈S6 could be used 30 minutes later according to the timetable. In Sindelfingen the 🚍Bus711 was also 10 minutes late for the onward journey. In the 17th century, the Huguenots and Waldensians, Reformed believers in France and Piedmont, were cruelly persecuted by state and church. Since 1685 about 40,000 Huguenots and Waldensians fled violence and intolerance to the German lands or were expelled. Thousands of them, coming from France and Italy, crossed the Rhine by ship from Basel, while others headed north from Schaffhausen on foot. Most of them first went to Frankfurt am Main, the most important hub for the flow of refugees. From there the journey continued to various German principalities, mostly to Brandenburg-Prussia and Hesse-Kassel. Others found a new home in the Electoral Palatinate, in Baden and in Württemberg.
