The tour starts in Hirsau. Take some time at the beginning, because a short detour through the historic buildings of the Hirsau monastery complex will definitely be worth it! From Hirsau you hike along the Ostweg long-distance hiking trail to the Hermann Hesse town of Calw.

Yesterday, we took the train (S6, RE87, and RB74) to Calw in comfort. We brought our lunch and enjoyed it on the sunny banks of the Nagold River. An extensive walking tour of the town revealed the beauty of this small town. We spent the night in a very cozy inn on the market square, and our friendly hosts served us a delicious breakfast. A bright blue sky greets us as we leave the house. We head first to the pleasant bakery where we had coffee yesterday to buy some bread. Then we head south, and after the last house, the asphalt ends and the Engagement Trail—a wonderful path through the forest—takes us in. We cross the main road, and a track takes us to a trail with an alpine feel, where two short ladders even assist hikers. The trail may be difficult in wet conditions, but in the current dry conditions, it's easily manageable, provided you have good shoes and surefootedness. At Holzbronn, we leave the forest, enjoy the sun and the view, and after a pleasant chat with a couple passing us, we continue our hike to Gültinger Lake, where we stop for a rest: lunch. We've long since replaced our winter hats (2°C this morning) with sun hats (now the thermometer reads 23°C). Over hill and dale, we reach Sulz am Eck and are treated to a view of the church with its beautiful ceiling. It's currently being decorated for a wedding tomorrow. A side note: the organ is in the choir. Now it's not far to Wildberg. We leave our backpacks at the "Talblick" hotel and, with light luggage, explore the town a bit. First, we walk to the castle ruins, then go downstairs for a coffee. Past the Arrest and Witches' Tower, we head back up to our hosts, where a shower and later dinner await us.
